The memorial is set on a rocky promontory north of Cove village and can be reached by a narrow single track road with lovely views across Loch Ewe. The journey alone is worth the time to get here. The loch was the base for many merchant ships that made the arduous trip supplying northern Russia during World War 2 with the loss of many lives. The memorial site was the location of anti aircraft guns protecting the loch and the remains of concrete bunkers built 80 years ago is still in evidence together with an evocative memorial. There are a series of interpretation sites and public artworks all around the coast of Loch Ewe, particularly close to Poolewe village as well as the one based here and are worth seeking out.

We visited the Arctic Convoys Memorial whilst staying in Gairloch.

The memorial is about 8 miles from Inverewe Poolewe (along a largely single-track road, with passing places).

The memorial sits next to the remains of many WW2 buildings on the cliffs above the entrance to Loch Ewe. The views are stunning, and the story about the base, and about the Arctic Convoys in general, are very interesting.

Definitely worth a visit

Visited this beautiful memorial dedicated to the brave men of the Arctic convoys during the Second World War. It is set in a remote and rugged part of Scotland. It is absolutely well worth the effort to see. The area of Cove is beautiful as is Loch Ewe. A fitting tribute to extremely brave men.

On the road away towards Ullapool or from towards Poolewe there is a Loch Ewe that played a major part in the last War in saving the Russians , thousands of Men and Women stood guard on that cold and windy place getting ship ready for the Russian Run, The loch was mined in 1939 and the past days can be seen on the landscape even now. You can view the Hard Stone Gun Platforms that protected the top of the world and the faces of the people at the time. It maybe 80 years since the end and I PRAY those days never come again . So stop by and look and be amazed by so those Brave Men and Women from Poland as well as the Uk gave their lives for Freedom, you can walk now but those days they Ran.

Allow at least 25 minutes each way from Poolewe, it’s a scenic single track drive well worth taking. The memorial stone and gun emplacements are on a beautiful headland with panoramic views of Loch Ewe & the Minch, allowing reflection on the bravery of the men on the Arctic Convoys.

Scenery breathtaking and lovely memorial stone. There is a small rock left by a Russian visitor that simply says 'Thank You' A place to stand and reflect.

A must see combined with the Artic Convoy project museum. It makes you appreciate the hardships those seamen must have experienced so that we can live a free life.

We deliberately visited here to donate items which belonged to my late father who was on the HMS Cumberland patrolling the Artic Convoys. We were met by amazing people who all appear to be volunteers and so dedicated to the cause. I personally was so pleased that they were interested in the items and thoroughly enjoyed seeing what was exhibited.
Anyone seriously interested in this part of the 2nd World war could spend hours to take in everything and myself also found it very emotional.
Afterwards we visited the Memorial which is at the end of a single track road but well worth the effort.
Thanks to all involved in this wonderful project!!

After visiting the museum in Aultbea we followed the road round the loch to the memorial. There’s a little car park at the bottom and it’s just a short walk to the memorial. Very emotional. We were a little surprised more people didn’t walk up as the car park was busy. The view is great and there’s real history on this hill top - worth a visit.

We visited this memorial having been to the exhibition in Aultbea. Young people should be made aware of the sacrifices made on our behalf.
