This fragmented national park alongside the Pacific Highway in SE Lake Macquarie has a number of walking trails through beautiful vegetation of spotted gum-Angophora costata forests with littoral rainforest patches and heathlands. Filled with possums and swamp wallabies (and foxes and cats), and probably gliders. Great view points for the whale migration. The big downside of this park is the number of trail bikers and 4wds trashing it day-in, day-out.

Feels like you have travelled to an isolated place, beautiful bush and beach views. From Snapper Point we saw a pod of whales heading south for summer.

To get to this track drive south along Caves Beach Road and park on the roadside opposite number 178 and the Coastal walking track starts on the left side of you. The track follows the shoreline linking Caves Beach with the headland south of Pinny Beach, and from many vantage points there are simply spectacular views over the coastline and ocean. We saw dolphins along the way. The track is a bit neglected here and there and not that well signed, and follows a 4WD track in part then cuts up hill where there is a sign (attached image) but aim at the wooden steps you see ahead of you and you'll be OK. After about 2 kms it opens up at Spoon Rocks where there is a popular fishing spot, as well as the lovely split rock. Amazing weathered rocks all around you. We ran out of time to get to the end so will have to do it again one day as it really was very good
