Our three hours with Sylvanus were the best birdwatching experience we have had. The estate is not only stunningly beautiful, it is incredibly rich with birdlife and Sylvanus knows them all - he seems to sense them coming. The hummingbirds were incredible, but there were plenty of rarer species too. You'll need a 4x4 to get to the estate entrance, but don't worry - if you haven't got that then someone will meet you lower down the road from Soufrière. This really is the best nature experience on this fantastic island.

If you like bird watching Silvanus is the expert. His knowledge is amazing & his ability to hear & spot some of the more elusive birds brilliant. We didn't see a parrot this time but the highlite was a hummingbird sitting on nest with 2 eggs. It's an informative tour explaining all the plants & trees with their uses.. Silvanus is so welcoming & passionate about the estate & it's upkeep. It's a tiny road with the last section rough but with care we made it in a hire car.

We absolutely loved this experience! Silvi was a knowledgeable, fun and gracious guide. He was very passionate about the land. We learned about the trees, plants and birds in the area. We sampled fruit right from the land! Sugarcane was delicious, along with the raspberries, grapefruit, coconut water etc. Silvi cooked us delicious cashews also. We tasted his delicious spiced rum and bought some to take home with us. We would love to go back sometime!

Julieta gave us top shelf service at the ice cream parlor and the Italian restaurant. Great example of wonderful service.

An outstanding tour for birds, botany and traditional medicine. Silvanus has a vast knowledge of his local environment and a warm and humorous delivery. We saw four of the five indigenous birds, and heard the fifth! The ones we saw included the St. Lucian parrot, the grey trembler, the forest thrush and the St. Lucia warbler. The pace of the tour was relaxed, with lots of time to observe and photograph, and to take in the incredible views.

Our tour with Sylvanus was absolutely memorable. He introduced us to a remarkable range of birdlife as well as plants of many sorts, explaining in many cases what their remarkable medicinal qualities were. The couple of hours that we spent with him were fascinating. We would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone visiting the island.

As I promised in my previous review (June 2024), I revisited the Grand Eden Estate in August 2024. However, I was unable to successfully post that review for some unknown reason. Also, I forgot about it until my return to St. Lucia. So here I am with the August 2024 review.
On my visit in August 2024, I was accompanied by my sister, Minerva, an avid bird photographer. Once again, upon arrival at the Grand Eden Estate, we saw the St. Lucia Parrot, but it flew and landed in a distant tree and could not be seen to be photographed. We waited to see if it would fly towards us, but after about 10 minutes, we saw two of them flew away past us; apparently, the other one was already in the tree before we had arrived.
What more can I say about Sylvanus? He was his usual self; friendly, confident, inspiring, and knowledgeable. On that visit, we not only drank fresh coconut water, but sampled his homemade rum. Good stuff!!
This time, we saw all five of the St. Lucia Endemic Birds; namely, the St. Lucia Parrot, the St. Lucia Pewee, the St. Lucia Black Finch (male and female), the St. Lucia Warbler, and the St. Lucia Oriole. I was able to photograph all, but the St. Lucia Parrot. Other birds I photographed were the Lesser Antillean Bullfinch (male and female), the Purple-throated Carib Hummingbird, the Lesser Antillean Flycatcher, and the Grey Trembler. There were other birds we saw, but were not photographed, and they included the Bare-eyed/Spectacled Thrush, Hummingbirds, Grey Kingbird, Caribbean Elaenia, Shiny Cowbird, Black-whiskered Vireo, and Carib Grackle. Minerva did photographed some of these!
Imagine seeing all five Endemic Birds of St. Lucia in one area on a single trip! I have visited other rainforests (reserves/trails) in St. Lucia, but have not seen so many different species of birds in one day! Grand Eden Estate is a great place to visit by bird watchers and bird photographers. Of course, if you love nature, you will also enjoy the trip to the Grand Eden Estate.
We had a wonderful day, and Minerva is contemplating a return trip to Grand Eden Estate whenever she visits St. Lucia again.
Highly recommended! (5/5!)

Sylvanis was a great guide - we learned so much about the native plants, birds and wildlife and the farm. He provided us with walking sticks which helped with some climbing and some muddy spots (wear hiking boots if you can). We also got to sample fresh coconut and coconut water, grapefruit, raspberries, sugar cane, begonia flowers. We also had a tasting of the "antique spiced rum", sorrel wine and begonia wine. We were very fortunate to see several St. Lucia Parrots (Amazons) flying back and forth across the valley, and we also saw hummingbirds banana quits, trembler, thrasher and more. This is a great way to spend a morning or afternoon on St. Lucia.

Really neat experience. Drive to the Estate is pretty daunting, however. Saw 4 of 5 indigenous birds to St. Lucia. Would recommend to the nature lover interested in leaning of native plants and animals. Guide was fantastic

HAS anyone taken a taxi from the cruise terminal to Grand Eden?
How much does the tour cost?
Escrita el 19 de enero de 2024
The tour really has no “cost”. But they do expect a tip afterwards. We gave $60 USD for his time. He said “payment is good” when we were leaving. I’m not sure if a taxi will drive up there because of how rough the roads are but if you ask I’m sure they would :) the roads are bad anyways so I’m sure it doesn’t make a difference to them. Worth a shot to ask!
