As snorklers, we couldn't go down the water like the free drivers we saw. It is a historical ship that sunk during a hurricane in the 1800. You can clearly see the outline of the ship, propellors and port holes... Not to be missed

I happened to be here on pretty much the best day of weather ever. The conditions were perfect, from the bow of the boat we could look down and see the huge 'cuda's and schooling reef fish. The wreck is pretty much intact, and very safe.

well worth the stop. Half of us stayed up top snorkeling, while the others scubaed below. My nine year old doesn't scuba yet so I sat this one out, but felt like I was right along with the trip. Great for both groups

We decided to snorkel over this wreck. It is in the open water so you must be a strong swimmer...even on a calm day... absolutely stunning with quite a bit of under water creatures to see.

The Chikuzen is one of my favorite wrecks in the BVI. Trips here are infrequent as the wreck lies in an unprotected part of the ocean and the waters have to be very calm to make the journey. Even on a calm day, it can be a choppy journey, so it's not a great destination unless you don't get seasick. Once here, this is a really nice dive of a large, intact wreck. With little else in the vicinity, the wreck draws a lot of marine life and even some larger animals, which are a rare site at most destinations in the BVI.

Incredible dive. Japanese refrigerator ship that sunk. This and the Rhome are the two best Caribbean Wreck dives around

The Chikuzen is a wreck of a Japanese or So. Korean refrigerator ship that was to be scrapped but someone set her on fire so she would sink at sea.
She grounded on one of the other keys until she was towed and sank during the tow in her present location. It is not a wreck to visit if the seas are rough as it is some diostance from Virgin Gorda. On one prior occasion I dived the wreck it had lots of large pelagics around the wreck but this time there were large schools of small snapper, yellow tail snapper, eels, and lots of critters.

It is a great dive and recommended if the seas cooperate.

Diving with Dive BVI is the best!

We are divers but chose to snorkel over this wreck. If you have never been to a wreck before this is a great place to start. You will be amazed at the condition of the wreck after all of this time.

Goliath Grouper, reef shark, large schools of fish, 200 foot viz.
Simply a super dive site.
I was surrounded by a school of thousands (yes, thousands) of yellowtails while diving here and instead of swimming off, they swam WITH me. It was a real rush. This was just after swinmming with a Goliath Grouper that dwarfed me and just before a 6-7 foot reef shark cruised by.
Hard to beat this site and I rank this as one of the best dives I have ever done.Dove it with Dive BVI and they did an excellent briefing and followed a profile that allowed a safe 50 minutes on the wreck

I have made several dives on this site over the years Dive BVI and never been disappointed. Whether it's dolphins putting on a show for us, Eagle Rays or fields of starfish it is always an exciting and fun dive. It takes some time to get there and the seas not always accommodating, but well worth it. If you have the opportunity, take It!
