Pricly Pear Island offers such wonderful stretches of beach in shallow waters to allow you to playfully rest and relax with family and friends in the warm waters between Pricly Pear and Virgin Gorda. Food and drink available or you can grab a tour boat from Gumption on Virgin Gorda and head over for a day trip.

Had been here before the hurricane, and now just over a year later visited the island again by catamaran. Lovely beach and island. Great for swimming, kayaking and just enjoying the beach. The buildings on the island that had small restaurants, washrooms and could host a beach party got mostly flattened during the hurricane. The docks look to being rebuilt. Takes time. The beach is easily accessible by dinghy (beach on West coat in Leverick Bay).
Lovely place to swim, with very calm water and lost of soft sand.

Just around the island from the Bitter End. Very nice snorkeling. Put in at one side and floated down the beach.

Our cruise ship had our day planned for us at this secluded beach. It was fabulous. We had such a great experience, all to ourselves. Beautiful water, beautiful beach. Our cruise ship had everything set up for us to enjoy the day which we did. A band, tons of food, drinks, water sports, it was totally awesome. Best day of the trip.

The beach here is quiet. You can go with couples or a family and spend the day. There is not too much snorkeling. There are no signs stating you have to pay for a chair, but the people working will tell you to pay $10. Be prepared to pay or sit on the sand. If you have an inflatable chair that collapses easily, then you dont have to spend the money to use a chair. They will allow you to sit in a chair at a table. It wasn't that we had to spend $10, but it was the unfriendly way we were told to pay $10. We walked around and left.

Have fun sailing around the island, stopping at the beaches, looking up at Necker and Eustacia and stopping for drinks. Fun way to spend an hour or 2.

This Island IS the ESSENCE of the BVI. We've stayed at Bitter End Yacht Club (just a quarter mile from Prickly Pear) many times over the years, and Prickly Pear Island is a mandatory stop on our daily sailing excursions. There are really two different versions of the island. The east side provides secluded beaches that stretch for a mile or more with few if any visitors to encounter. If you're heading over to the east side in a small Boston Whaler (from BEYC) make sure you pick a calm day - the waves come rolling in from the east when the winds are blowing, and beaching a small boat can be treacherous (been there, done that.). You're better off anchoring a few yards from the beach and swimming/walking in. In all the years we've been there, I don't think we've ever seen more than 5 or 6 other humans on the beach at the same time that we were there. Snorkeling has been good with lots of Conch just off the beach. You might see a few goats roaming around. Bring your own shade if you're planning an extended visit. There are a few bushes and trees but shade is not plentiful. If the wind is really blowing, head over to the west side of the island where you'll find the "Sand Box" bar and grill.

The west side of the island (actually the southwest tip) is sheltered from the typical east winds, so you can sail your Hobie right up on the beach without hesitation. They have a pier for larger boats, and lots of 40+-foot sailboats usually anchor just off the beach off to the west. The bar/grill serves a variety of sandwiches and goodies and their drinks are just fabulous. Tables, chairs and umbrellas are available, plus there is an under cover restaurant area with plenty of tables for those who need some time away from the sun. Restrooms are available. Plenty of room on the sandbar for swimming and you might see a starfish out there. We've spent many days sailing around the North Sound, and we always look forward to stopping at the Sand Box for a Pina Colada or a Pain Killer after working up a thirst.

Every once in a while, some of the smaller cruise ships like to drop off their passengers and crew at the Sand Box when they anchor in the North Sound, so you might have some company. (Maybe 40 or 50 people). But, have no fear, there's plenty of room for everybody.

Every time I think about Prickly Pear Island, I just have to say "AAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH" It's one of the main reasons we go to the BVI in the first place.

We were brought to Pricly Pear island as part of Cruise, the venue was pristine and although we were there on a windy day we still were able to enjoy our beach BBQ. The beach is quite nice and people have been respectful and there was no debris or litter around the island.

we took the Saba Rock ferry over to the beach. There were six other people there and that is it. However, do NOT go there when the cruise ship is in North Sound. It takes over the whole beach.
