Car park spacing is too narrow. This smelly water body is in walking distance to a car park, so what?

Walked up from the Errwood carpark, up to Shining Torr. Incredible views. Walking round Fernilee reservoir also a beautiful easy walk

A lovely place in the countryside yet only a short drive from the town of Buxton. Lots of places to go for a walk, whether you want a short walk or a long walk

What a beautiful place to travel through on our way to Errwood reservoir. Stunning views and plenty of places to admire them from.

The River Goyt runs for about 30 miles from Axe Edge into the River Tame at Stockport which in turn forms the Mersey. It is therefore varied along its length. Having already been to the Millennium walkway at New Mills, which is a beautiful stretch, we decided to go nearer to its source and drive the one way road along the Errwood reservoir. Up to the dam head it is two way, but from there on is one way so you need to approach from the Buxton end. The reservoir itself is unremarkable and we didn't walk to Errwood Hall ruins.
There are several pull ins and car parks to enable walking, but we were there for scenery. It's a short drive and the river is barely visible for most of it. We stopped at the Packhorse bridge which is now fenced off as it's collapsed on one side. At the end at Derbyshire Bridge there are toilets. All in all I felt disappointed with this section and would recommend other sections as being more scenic.

It was so nice to visit The Goyt Valley yesterday. It was a lovely clear day which made it all the better. The views are outstanding with so much natural beauty to see.

This is a lovely peaceful area in The Peaks, great for hiking. You can park your car adjacent to Erwood reservoir and then take a circular walk up into the hills, along Pym Chair ridge where you'll get great views and then back via the ruins of Erwood Hall (for the more adventurous hikers look out for the Spanish Shrine as you head towards Pym Chair - it's a tiny circular brick chapel tucked away down a slope just off of the path). The paths are reasonably well signposted, the terrain varies from woodland to open moorland and it can be quite steep at times. We had a great day out here.

We walked to Goyt Valley from Buxton, on a circular walk. The scenery is beautiful and the walks well marked. Plenty of car parking space around the 2 lots of water. We went in the week & it was relatively quiet. Do keep an eye out on the roads for the cyclists...they do go fast!

We parked in the small (free) Goyt Valley car park and set off downhill towards Errwood Reservoir. The paths were quite steep and rough and the scenery beautiful. We walked along the reservoir then up through the woods and back above the tree line for more great views on the way back to the car park - a nice 3 mile circular walk.

It has been said that the Goyt Valley is a magical place, full of nooks and crannies and always with something new to see depending on the season. That is a pretty fair description, there is good and interesting history in the area together with the gruesome events that took place at Goytsclough quarry in the 1980s....
I've been to the valley and surrounds a few times, first as part of a circular walk from Chinley then as part of a, erm, circular walk from Buxton. My advice is to also look at exploring the further flung parts and the moorland that surrounds the area, eg the Pym chair ridge and the other side of this which contains the deserted settlement of Thursb.... that is heavily steeped in legend

Looking for wheelchair friendly walks in the Goyt valley area. Easy terrain and no steps or stiles. Small gradients acceptable.

Could anyone advise if there are wheelchair friendly walks in the Goyt Valley area? One of us uses a small electric scooter. Easy terrain needed with no steps or stiles.

The Riverside is ideal.Distance: 2 miles and Very easy.Start point: Errwood Hall car park
This short walk includes one of the most scenic spots in the valley, as it runs down to the River Goyt (which is very much a stream at this point). This part of the walk is along a solid track making it ideal for wheelchair users, or families with small children and baby-buggies. There are also some great paces for picnics, alongside the Goyt.
Enjoy!
