Good example of a working water mill. Staff were informative. You can buy and see flour being ground.

We were impressed with the way this old water mill has been maintained by volunteers and still mills flour in the traditional way. Set over three floors it has steep ladder type stairs to the upper floors so is not suitable for the less abled. This is ideal for kids to see first hand how flour used to be produced. There is no cafe or toilets.

Three enthusiasts showed the Chess Valley U3A group the mysteries of how the mill worked. Clever trap doors and hoists, a warning bell if not enough grain was going into the mill stones as well as a siphoning pipe to feed the wheel from the pond, where some of the devices we were shown. I bought a couple of bags of wholemeal flour and look forward to tasting bread and cake made with it.

A fantastic place to visit for both groups and individuals. We have been a few times with groups of children on milling days. The children get to have a hands on experience of grinding and to understand how bread etc was made. Beautiful location and all the voluntary staff are fantastic and accommodating.

A truly interesting and different place to visit, its not open all year so check before you go that it will be open. Run and restored by volunteers who are very helpful in explaining the history and working of the mill. Well worth the entrance fee and certainly somewhere to visit.

A lovely working 17th century watermill. You get a very interesting talk by the miller - learned things about milling and mills I had never considered, and get to see a mill actually grinding corn and making proper wholegrain flour. Simply buy a bag and go home and make real old fashioned wholegrain bread. It has a nice area for sitting outside and a bridge so you can cross the river and watch the wheel. Might only be a one off unless you want more flour, but would make a great outing for a family in the summer. Kids love the machinery.
