Monday 28th October and we visited the Island, Isla Mujeres, by ferry from Cancun. While walking along the pavement towards the north of the island we spotted this statue.
It is one of the two statues that stands in front of Playa Centro, a beach on the northern end of the Island.
This one is in homage to the Baracuda and the silvery sculpture depicts the fish with it's mouth open displaying it's fearsome teeth. It is also facing the other statue of the Marlin Azul.
The barracuda is a large, predatory, ray-finned fish known for its menacing appearance and ferocious behaviour.
A saltwater fish found in tropical and subtropical oceans worldwide stretching from the eastern border of the Atlantic Ocean to the Red Sea, on its western border and the Caribbean Sea.
The Sculpture stands on a tall plinth which is a curved structure and leans inwards towards the other statue and it's plinth.
There is a dedication on the plaque of the supporting plinth which translates as follows:-
"It is abundant in tropical and subtropical climates outside and inside the bays".
There is a mural painted on the pavement between the base of both statues.
