Monday 28th October we visited Isla Mujeres by ferry from Cancun.
As we walked around we spotted this rather large statue in the centre of the road at the intersection of Avenida Rueda Medina and Aldolfo Lopez Mateos alongside Playa Centro.
This dark stone monument stands on a circular stone plinth. It depicts a fisherman and his family at the base of a cliff by the sea.
The fisherman has cast his net into the sea which has caught a large fish, could be a Baracuda, in the depths of the ocean. While his wife sits on a nearby rock clutching her child close to her.
On one of the many plaques around the base, there is an inscription "a salute to the sea’s bounty and those who brave its depths."
As this is a busy intersection, it is difficult to get up close to the statue, it is safer to view and take pictures from the pavements around the statue.
