We visited both the Schloss and Museum. The lead pencil museum is self guided with enough explanations in English that I understood the historic process of pencil making.

The museum shows the ingredients as well as having examples of all the machines used in the process.

This was a really interesting tour, although we had an English speaking guide which made p for the fact that all the signs and posters were in German. Seeing the amount of work that went into making a humble pencil in the early days was remarkable also was the story behind the Faber-Castell family, their benevolence to their workers and community members. Their insistence on quality set them apart very early and keeps the company at the top of the game.

You must be warned though that the tour is through the old factory which is adjacent to the new factory and therefore it is still kept hot to process the pencil 'leads'. It can be a little dirty if you have kids who like to touch, as everything is covered in graphite. There are some steps to negotiate as well so it may not be suitable if you have mobility issues.

The museum is in the old factory. Great to step back in time. You get a good impression of how pencils are made. A lot of the old interior is saved. Worth to visit. Parking is free within walking distance.
