One of the Christopher Wren buildings. He was the architect responsible for the rebuilding of London after the great fire in 1666. It was rebuilt again after the WW1 and 2 bombing. Simple and clean lines is a Wren mark. If you keep walking the path beside the church you will end up in a hidden corner with a cute pub.

Interesting church that I think may be looked after by the community. It’s a long standing building in excellent condition. Worth a look.

Because it’s situated just outside what were the ancient eastern walls of the City of London St. Botolph’s counts as an East End church albeit in a part of the East End into which the city has migrated. The first church on this site dating from 1212 largely survived the Great Fire of 1666 but was demolished and completely rebuilt in 1724-9. To produce a striking frontage onto Bishopsgate the architect designed a tower at the east end. It was slightly damaged in the 1940 Blitz and the IRA bombing of Bishopsgate in 1993. It is currently home not just to an Anglican congregation but also an Orthodox parish. It has an extensive courtyard home to a small ornamental pond, a sculpture part of a trail throughout the City of London and, this afternoon, a couple of vagrants. Within the grounds is also a church hall and a Victorian Turkish bath.

Like many churches in the City (though this was actually outside the city walls), St Botolph has a long and interesting history going back 800 years.
The original church survived the Great Fire, but still it was rebuilt in the XVIII century and is now a classic example of Anglican Baroque church with a few more recent additions. Though it is nice, i think it is very average with nothing special or memorable.

As with many churches in central London they are swallowed up by the surroundings and the modern structures. Worth a visit.

My wife and I were here for The Eve Appeal Christmas Carol Concert.
The service was most pleasant and the choir exceptional, to be recommended.
The charity is also most worthwhile.
