We went for a 2 nighter Thanksgiving week-end car camping. We lucked out with great weather. The sites were varied, some small and some large, so difficult to know what you’re getting until you get there. The bathroom amenities, water faucets, the park store, generally were great for this type of park. The fire pit though didn’t have a grill, so be prepared to bring one that works for a metal drum type pit, or cook on stove. The area is very large and provided great hiking and nature walking trails, and had camping facilities for horses, which made for something different. Canoeing on the river was wonderful with the fall colours, but you must pay attention to the current, rapids. The points are far between to portage back along the river, and so either you brave the shallows to lift canoe upstream or you need to canoe Kms downstream to the next launch site to portage, walk, drive back. Being close to Southampton and Port Elgin is awesome too!

Campground is nice, but the trailer dump station is in need of upgrade. End of long weekend and we had a long wait to pump out (expected), just to find out that once it was our turn, the dump station had reached capacity (not expected). Then had to wait over an hour for staff to respond to our request for assistance. The response - slow drain, and we had to wait. Not acceptable!

Thank you for your comment! We were actually discussing the need for this upgrade this morning. We will definitely be looking after this in the spring. Thanks again!

Went in expecting a 2.5 kilometer hike, and ended up putting in 9 through rough, slippery, muddy terrain. The hike to the lookout is short and lovely, with a few good climbs - well-worth the view. From there though, because we had were given the equestrian trail map at the gate house and not the day hike map, we went left when we should have gone right... It should be noted that the trails are not well-marked, and when we were there, they were very wet, so it was treacherous. We finally got to a spot where we had cell reception, so with Google satellite we were able to figure out our location and find our way out. No worse for wear, just quite muddy, wet and tired. My recommendation would be for Ontario Parks to ensure that their attendants are well trained and able to provide accurate information to visitors.

There is camping for those with horses, trailers or tents. You can rent the pavilion for a group picnic or bbq. You can rent canoes to paddle on the Saugeen River. You can shop at the store from needed items to ice cream treats. There is a park for kids to play. Horseshoes for those who wish. Lots of fun at the campfire! Love it!

Have been going to this campground for years on Canada Day weekend. We've had good & not so good experiences from year to year. Site are large & some on one side of the park are prone to flooding in a severe rainstorm ... not fun especially for tenters. It really is a lovely spot but i'm afraid this will be our last trip to this park. My beef is not with the park itself but with the park rangers that were working this past weekend. There were MANY families with young children & the 3 campsites behind us were EXTREMELY LOUD & disrespectful to the people around them. Hooting & howlering well into the night & the rangers seemed content to let it continue. IT is close quarters & respect for fellow campers is paramount! I'm all for having a good time but people with small children need to have them sleep.I felt so bad for the couple next to us with a small baby. Since there is no cell service there is little recourse to voice a complaint. I will not be returning. Camp Rangers need to do there job & make people follow the rules. In the past if people were behaving in such a manner they would have been kicked out.

We go here every year ! We use the local livery in paisley and kayak down to the campsites on the river at the bluffs. Always a great time. They have a pavilion and activities in case it rains. Lots of raccoons so make sure your food is packed away during the night. I think building their dock out a little better would be beneficial in the future. It's always a challenge for people who aren't avid boaters to get out on the slipper my rocks. I've had many friends come away with bad bruises but that does come with adventure! It was also very neat to see that they have equine camping now too! Im a horseback rider so I'll have to try that out in the future!

I went to the conservation area to do a day hike. The service at the front gate was alright. They were out of maps so the person working happily made us a copy while we waited. There was only one trail -- which I was a little disappointed about but not their fault. I was just looking for more. The trail at some parts was nicely marked and maintained, others not so much. The trail to get down to the bottom of the bluffs was hard to find. But it was beautiful scenery and the area seemed to be well taken care of.

Thanks for your comments! We're always glad to hear what our visitors have to say. We did some MAJOR upgrades to the park this past year and we're still working on the trails - hoping hoping to continue the improvements into the fall. We're also working on a new trails brochure, which is probably why the gate staff had to photocopy an old one for you! The new brochure should be ready for the spring!
