Highly recommend to park at Miller's Dale Station when venturing out to Chedale
(The Stepping Stones)
The access from Miller's Dale Station into the valley is a much better way round of doing the circular walk
The parking at Wye Dale is extremely limited for parking spaces as it's the car park used for customers hiring from Blackwell Mill Cycle Hire and the access from the lay-by is dangerous due to an extremely steep slope
If taking personal bikes to do the trail parking is best at Hassop Station where there is ample parking and two free of charge fields allocated to park throughout the day
Hope this helps

The Monsal trail is an eight and a half mile walking and cycling route along an old railway track and can be accessed at various points. We joined it at Bakewell station and turned left, which is the direction of the bulk of the trail.
We walked past Hassop station, where there is a cafe, and went as far as Thornbridge Estate where we had coffee in Quackers Cafe. It was a lovely walk along flat and easy terrain with lovely countryside views. It is clearly a very popular trail because even out of season, ie January, there were lots of people of all ages and physical abilities enjoying the walk.
Highly recommended.

Started the walk from Millers carpark as I wanted to reach Cheedale stepping stones. Though the hike took us just an hour to reach the first set of stepping stones, several parts of the hike were truly muddy. We were blessed that it was winter and the mud had frozen. Otherwise, it was hard to imagine how we could get stuck deep in the mud throughout the journey. However, my boys and I totally had a whale of a time admiring the magical scenery. It was as though the Snow Queen was doing her works. This is my favourite part of my 14day trip in England.

One of the most popular cycle routes in Derbyshire, using an old railway line. We rode it all, there and back, having parked at Hassop (see the review for best parking on Monsal Trail) . It is easy riding, with wooded sections and some viewpoints, as well as the excitement of riding through tunnels. Some opportunities for refreshment at Hassop and Millers Dale. A great day out!

There are expensive pubs along the path. It was foggy, we did not see that interesting sights at all.

This is a beautiful, generally flat old railway track which offers a great cycling, running or walking track.
There are beautiful views of the Peak District and lots of atmospheric Victorian railway tunnels along the way.
There are cafes and toilets in old railway stations at various points along the way.

Lovely long walk or perfect for a bike ride. We took our dog with us and walked more then halfway and back again. Lovely walk to tired him out but also the scenery is amazing along the way. There are a couple of pubs along the way which is great for if you have kids and need a little rest

Monsal head view point is beautiful. There is a pay and display car park, and a pub. We parked here, at the top, - but you can easily park at Millers Dale station and walk along the Monsal trail. Plenty of benches to sit and enjoy the views, looking out over the old railway viaduct, and down the valley.

We parked in a pay and display car park and waked a central section of this trail. There are a few different start end points on this walk but it was built on on old railway line so flat to walk on. The section we walked took us through 3 tunnels one was long enough to need lighting. Calm peaceful area for a leisurely stroll

Is there a safe way to cycle from the CAMC site at Buxton to the start of the Monsal trail without going on the A6
I am coming from the Buxton caravan and motorhome site - how do I get onto the trail without riding on the A6?
How long would it take to walk for an average walker from Bakewell and back to Bakewell?

Can you access monsal trail near cressbrook? And is it easy access no steep inclines?

Yes you can, by the farm below Monsal Head off bottomhill road. Go over the bridge up a reasonably steep incline. Everything is accessible from Cresbrook, within walking distance. Beautiful walk along the river access through the Mill. Hope that helps.

We are staying in Tideswell and want to cycle to get onto Monsal Trail. Is there a safer route than using the main road?

Hi LoffO,
I believe, after extensive research, that the best and safest route for you would be to wait for low tide (check the up-to-date local timetable in the Titeswell library) and then you should be able to carry your bicyclets above your heads. The water will not be above calf height during low tide (check with local farmers regarding the height of the local calves though). Hope this helps.

Can you do the 8.5 miles there and back in one day as would be parking the car at the start point or is there a circular route? We would be walking.

There is the TP3 bus which is a short walk from each end so you can park one end, walk and get the bus back. Bus also connects with Matlock railway station so you can do it all by public transport

Hi,
Could anyone tell me where we could make toilet stops please?
I understand the map is out of date.

Hi - the online map is OK I think. There are toilets at Hassop Station (bike hire here) and at Millers Dale station a bit over half way along. There are some too at Monsal Head but you have to leave the trail and go up a fairly steep path. Toilets in Bakewell too.
You'll find the map and info on the Peak District (.gov.uk) web site
