The story the ship is wonderful and very well explained in the guided tour. It is definitely like a walk in the history; roaming in the hallway, checking out the rooms, seeing the kitchen and the dining hall. One can imagine the crowd and all the hustle, bustle once the ship had.
My kids enjoyed the engine room the most; the big piston and the mechanism how it actually works.

We found this exhibit last minute and decided to visit. The ship itself is beautiful and warrants a return visit during the history tours. The haunted tour was more of a tour and show put on by the local high school drama club. It was interesting but there was no actual story to it. They need more explanation so you stay interested. We will return for the day tour because the ship warrants it. We would also like to explore port mcnichol.

The tour is just the right length of time and is good for families and couples, or singles at a reasonable cost

Not to be missed -- the story of this 100+ year old steam ship that cruised the great lakes with passengers and cargo is just fascinating!! Now back in its original home port, it is in the process of being lovingly renovated. The main gathering areas as well as several of the staterooms are so well done with genuine articles from the past. Our tour guide was amazing telling many stories about people who sailed with the ship. She even demonstrated the engine, a portion of which they have been able to actually get running. It is evident throughout that this ship is well loved by people who are restoring it.

What a pleasant surprise! This ship is so well done inside with genuine articles from the past. Our tour guide was amazing. She made the S.S. Keewatin come alive with the personal stories she has collected from visitors who had a personal connection with the ship. It is evident that this ship is well loved by people in the area and holds many fond memories! My only regret is that my mom could not go aboard because it is not wheelchair accessible.

I would definitely plan the 1 & 1/2 hour tour and visit to this old steamship which is the same age as the titanic would have been

We were on a three day road trip with friends when we visited the SS Keewatin. Of all the places we visited this was the highlight along with the Big Chute. The gentleman who was our guide was very knowledgeable about this ship from its beginning to where it’s docked now. The restoration being done is amazing and how fortunate to have so many original items for this project. We will visit again to see the progress being made.

There is a over the top attempt to create interest in this vessel by using the word Titanic. The only thing they share is the same builder. With all the marketing and tour they always mention Titanic. Should try to have the tour on its own merits and history and not that of the Titanic. The vessel has some nice views and the guided tour informative aside from the Titanic stuff included. A great deal of stuff (mementos) to purchase including Titanic souvenirs far too much emphasis again on Titanic.

My husband has some mobility issues, he uses a walker. Would he be able to tour the ship?
Tyler_Bos99
Port McNicoll, Canadá5 aportes
Both answers cover your questions quite well. The most important information is the amount of stairs and the tour is an hour to 1 1/2 hours. If the walker has the ability to fold (to pass through the doorways), then there is no problem taking it on tour. If you decide to come for a tour, let a staff member know about your mobility issue and we can try and adjust the tour so we have longer periods to sit.

No preferred footwear, however there is plenty of walking and some stairs. Something comfortable is best!
Can you rent The SS Keewatin for wedding receptions?
Atillacan

Hello, Up until now we have only done weddings on KEEWATIN with receptions being held elsewhere. With our new construction and park facility we are planning to have receptions in a wedding tent, next to Keewatin that would facilitate catering and licensing. Leaving the ship for visiting during the affair. When were you planning for?

Has the upper deck and wheel house been done?

Both are still works in progress. The incredible heat and torrential deluges this summer slowed our progress. Weather permitting, we hope to have the major portion of these projects done before the snow flies,

Has the upper deck and wheel house been finished? My partner was a wheelsman on the great lakes and would like to see it. He is from OwenSound.

The top deck ( Storm Deck) is not finished yet as we have had to rebuild the entire structure. The wheelhouse will open at the same time. We are working at it and it should be open next year. Please follow us on Facebook for constant updates.
