The location of this establishment is quite unique, in the highest flood of a traditional market in South Jakarta (Pasar Santa). I strongly suggest to check out their Instagram account (@abcd_coffee) before decide to try a cup of coffee here since the opening times is a bit random. Although in general they are open in weekend in the afternoon. The coffee is great, the service is excellent. They're always provide chance to chit chat with the customer waiting for the coffee. The baristas also top notch, some of them are regulary being a judge for international/national level barista competition. How about the coffee? Excellent. The beans is selected, other than fine local beans, they also import or received a premium beans from their colleagues.
What makes it different is that they rarely give a price tag for their coffee, what we find is red appreciation jar, where people expected to pay what they think reasonable for the coffee that they got. They also have barista class, where portion of the course fee are allocated for free seats for SOS Children's Villages. A very nice sociopreneur approach. Sometimes they also held charity brew, inviting world class barista with world class coffee bean, and donate all the money collected to social cause.

I stumbled upon ABCD purely by accident wandering around Pasar Santa one evening. The first thing that grabbed me -- the name. You know a bunch of guys who name their business "A Bunch of Caffeine Dealers" have to be cool, right? The second was a scrap of paper haphazardly taped to their shuttered kiosk, directing those interested in learning more about coffee to the company's website.
My favorite thing about all of the teachers at ABCD — Hendri, Ve, and Izman — is that they are truly driven by passion and a deep love for what they do. They gently direct, rather than correct, and make coffee both accessible and a wonderment. No one is too dumb, or too unsophisticated for this course. And that’s really saying something for a subject that is just as complex (if not more) than its frequently more standoffish cousin, wine appreciation.
You can elect to take any combination of four different modules, or as I did -- the full three day package (each module is around 4 hours + a 30 minute break. They are:
A: Appreciation
B: Brewing
C: Cupping, and
D: Definite Espresso
The first day is classroom / theory focused, but very interesting and engaging. The rest of the time is hands on practice - everything from how to evaluate coffee through the cupping process, to different ways of brewing coffee, pulling espresso, and even basic latte art.
Some might find the course a bit pricey -- but it's important to note that not only do they use specialty beans and high quality milk for all of the practical exercises -- but ABCD is also a business with a conscience, run by social entrepreneurs dedicated to giving back to their community. At the end of the day -- it's well worth it.
I’m not going to give EVERYTHING away, because quite frankly, if you live in Jakarta or thereabouts (or have some time to do something different on your next visit!) I strongly recommend this course!

If you're in Jakarta try booking a class with Henri and Ve. At $50 and up for a session, the class is not cheap but you have an internationally certified judge who definitely knows his stuff to teach you. The content is not rushed through either and im sure the money is put to good use as this social enterprise inspires and benefits local communities outside of the store.
Huge shout out to Ve for taking the time to take me to the main road to find a taxi and my fellow classmates for being so passionate about coffee! I love this place for the people and the heart. Plus, the coffee Ve made was AMAZING too, I always thought black coffee was too acidic and bitter in its own till I tasted that small shot made with an aeropress:)

There're so much hype about this place. Have to admit that I initially thought this place is just gonna be like those new eateris that come and go in a blink of an eye. To my surprise they actually served brilliant coffee. It's located on the 2nd floor of Pasar Santa, and i heard they don't have set opening time. Expect long queue, but it's worth the wait & the heat as you're in a traditional market.
Grab your coffee, sit on milk crates provided and just have a chat with your friend.
Payment method is as generous as you can. No pricelist per se. They also serve snacks.

Heard a lot about this place recently and just checked it out: all recommendations were legit for sure!
Surprising spot at the second level of a traditional market, super cool and friendly staff, baristas who actually understand what they brew and serve (casually interviewed of course...) and a groupie-like crowd. ABCD does not have any price list: one pays what one wants to pay --no judgement attached!
Gotto admit: the coffee itself was of quite good quality!
Recommended for the ones among us in search of new acquaintances as seating capacity is limited and everyone thus mingles. Additional charm: no wifi, so people actually talk!
