I volunteered here for 2.5 months and saw the inside workings of the company…I’ve never been treated with less respect or professionalism. The founder and boss, Sally, was harsh, dishonest, and manipulative, making my experience extremely stressful and upsetting. Although she puts on a show for tourists and cherry picks these reviews, behind the scenes the workers and volunteers are mistreated and have no voice for feedback or change. I was directly lied to about compensation and did not receive what was explicitly promised. If you care about worker ethics and supporting a business with moral practices, I strongly urge you to take your business to one of the many other riding tour companies that deserve your support.

I recently was lucky enough to have a couple of days horse riding with Ride Andes in the Cotopaxi National Park, it was truly amazing!! The guides were fantastic, the horses perfect and the landscape and wildlife were beautiful!!

RideAndes, Sally, and her accompanying horsemen (Ecuador: chagras) offer one of the most versatile, scenic, and bespoke horse trekking adventures offered in the Andes. Two friends and I undertook the Cotopaxi horse-trek (with dome riding around the Pesillo-Olmedo region close to Cayambe), in which I cannot express how surreal and incredible the landscape in which you ride through is; the horses were incredible, calm, and rode beautifully. The guides are very professional, warm, informative, and have a great level of socialising during the trek. We stopped for lunch for a little while, and during this time, the guide kindly explained cultural and common topics about Ecuador and South America in general, and it was great to hear it through his perspective. He also brought along some local fruits and teas for us to try, which was a lovely gesture.
Given our levels of horsemanship, the guide allowed us to walk, trot, and gallop at our own leisure; instructing us when it was safe to do so. He allowed us to take many photos (a very patient guide) and even took videos of us galloping across the volcanic landscape for us. For this reason, I couldn't rate this any higher. The entire trek was so bespoke and versatile for our level of riding, which is exactly what you dream of for a horse riding adventure like this.
The horses were very tranquil and perfect to manage in the sense of walking, trotting, and galloping wherever you would like; for the three of us, the horses we rode had very comfortable gaits and lovely personalities. The tack and equipment used was in perfect shape; comfortable saddles, comfortable stirrups, warm chaps and ponchos, and good helmets/protection. Horses and tack looked very well cared for and maintained, horses looked very comfortable and happy with the tack they were wearing, so the atmosphere of riding felt really well managed and enjoyable without any worry for the horses or equipment. From this, my friends and I can say the ownership, guides, horses, equipment, and location were all unreal, there isn't a thing we would have changed about our trek (maybe extending it would have been the only thing).

Sally organised an amazing ride for myself and my friend in Cotopaxi. It was such an amazing experience as we wore traditional clothing to ensure we were warm and were able to ride incredible horses who just loved trekking. I am so grateful for this experience and to Sally who organised it all.

Ride Andes has the experience and enthusiasm to make every riding holiday a great adventure. Having previously enjoyed rides with Ride Andes in Ecuador, Chile, and Brazil Pantanal, we decided to head south to the wild Andes and glaciers of El Calefate. We were not disappointed!
Long but comfortable rides on sure-footed creollo horses to the extremities of the estancia where our gaucho guides cooked wonderful assado and stews were interspersed with truly unique private boat excursions to the face of the Perito Moreño glacier and to an isolated glacial lake near the border with Chile.
In the evenings there was a warm fire (welcome even in the southern summer) and even warmer welcome from our hosts before a delightful dinner and sound sleep in our ensuite rooms.
We highly recommend this ride with Ride Andes

My friend and I completed two back-to-back Patagonia rides last week and we are still absorbing all of the amazing experiences we had.
The most varied variety of trails, from steep climbing through bamboo thickets, to multiple river crossings, to riding through scree and snow fields, to cantering across a meadow, all remarkably led by Sally and amazing gauchos.
Awesome scenery every day. The mountain tops were always filled with weather; the icebergs were deep blue and the glaciers nicely calved just when we were watching.
Beautiful horses, wonderful rides! An unforgettable trip!

This was the most brilliant vacation. The horses were spectacular. The landscape was breathtaking. The riding was exhilarating. And after long but rewarding days in the saddle, we could unwind in the most beautiful and comfortable haciendas and inns. I will definitely take another trip with Sally.

Had an amazing ride with Sally through the countryside north of Quito and Cotopaxi National Park, stopping at for overnights at haciendas along the way. Sally's horses are incredibly fit and well-trained, and both they and Sally took very good care of this rusty rider. Everything was impeccably coordinated, from horse logistics to the tasty and diverse picnic lunches, and Sally stood out as incredibly knowledgable and safety-conscious guide. Seeing Ecuador on a multi-day horseback tour was a first for me, and I think it gave me a much deeper understanding of the country than if I had stayed in Quito or just booked day rides at haciendas. Be sure to ask Sally about all the plant and wildlife you spot along the way; I can guarantee you she'll know what it is.
I can't wait to return to Ecuador (or perhaps Patagonia?) for another trip with Ride Andes! Definitely check out the website to see all the rides Sally offers across South America; there are so many it's hard to choose my next one.

If you've ever dreamed of an exotic trip that includes horses, this is the one for you. And whether you are a passionate equestrian or someone who just wants a different sort of adventure, Ride Andes offers it all.
I have ridden with Ride Andes in Uruguay, Argentina and Ecuador on multiple trips over the last 20 years (as well as with other companies), and I can say without a doubt that Sally and her team offer the gold standard in experience. The quality of horses, tack, food, accommodations, local knowledge, and safety are all top notch.
Whether it's a fast paced gallop across the highlands of Ecuador or a lovely scenic cruise, I wouldn't hesitate to give them a try.
I will return to ride with them over the next years, bringing family and friends, reveling in the experience of an insiders view of places unlike any other.

I loved being out in the countryside, riding near the Cotopaxi volcano and seeing the large variety of flora and fauna Ecuador has to offer. Sally's Ride Andes tour will ensure the best experience possible with her deep knowledge of horses and nature that she freely shares. It was a magical experience and the combination of valley riding and Volcano plains will be lasting great memories.

What are the height and weight limits for riders?

We have an 85kg weight limit for beginner/novice riders and a slightly higher limit for experienced riders -depending on such factors as the tour booked. please do contact us to discuss. Sally & Team Ride Andes
