High quality crafts including clothing, baskets, carvings, wall hangings, etc. This is a definite step up from the touristy artisan market nearby, but the prices for some items were less than what I saw elsewhere in my travels. The own is helpful and knowledgeable.

Although a bit off the beaten path, this store was worth the trip. Of all the shops visited, this had the most original handcrafted items. Not cheap. But definitely not the run of the mill items.

I have traveled extensively in Latin America for the last 35 years and am in the textile business, so I have seen my share of handicrafts and knitwear, from Uruguay to Mexico. Of all the stores I have been in, Galeria Latina is by far the best. It's not even close.
The owners of GL have made a lifetime of seeking out the best handicrafts in the Americas and often have played a substantive role in raising the quality and bringing out the best in the artisans by creating a market for more time-consuming artwork. You may think you have already seen Ayacucho tapestries, Peruvian retablos, ceramics, Panamanian molas or basketry, but it is unlikely you have seen any of this quality, especially not in one place. Their extensive knowledge and love of craft shows up in every item. Their relationships with the artisans go back decades.
The knitwear is drawn from the best manufacturers in South America. These goods are typically made for export only, so even if you are going to Bolivia or Peru, you will not see them there. Furthermore, they are honestly marked as alpaca or baby alpaca, rather than the often deceptive labeling you will see in other stores in South America. The prices are extremely fair for the level of quality.
In short, this is handicraft and knitwear store that encompasses the absolute best of Latin America, run by honest and very kind people. Not to be missed.

This store was a few blocks from our hotel so we wandered over to check it out. The quality is top notch, with beautiful fabric, carvings, hats, and artwork. We had our eye on a few things and will probably return to make a few purchases before heading home. This is a great place to shop, but, do be aware, the prices compare with the high quality.

Where do you go in Quito to find the good stuff? Right here. GL has beautiful textiles, jewelry, 3D art and fine clothing. The prices are higher, but so is the artistry. It’s worth a stop, whether or not you plan to buy.

My mom and I visited Galería Latina a few weeks ago to shop before she headed back to the States. We were both amazed by the caliber of the goods they had. It’s also one of the few galleries we went to that had pieces from Central and South America, not just Ecuador. I bought a beautiful geometric ring that was made in Mexico, and my mom bought a few bowls. Stefan is a lovely person and was so helpful with all of our questions and packing up all that we bought. We had a wonderful afternoon there, and I’d highly recommend the store to anyone who’s traveling through Ecuador. I’ll be back soon!

I have visited many of the Artisan stores in Quito and found the Galeria Latina to have more unique and high quality items. The store is run by a local family. I wanted to purchase a beautiful wood mirror however the store’s owner, Stefan, wanted to make sure I would be able to get it back to the US as checked luggage and in one piece before I purchased it. He and his associates assisted me in confirming the airline’s size and weight restrictions to ensure they would be able to adequately package the item to get thru checkin and customs. They did an amazing job packaging the mirror and making it easy to carry for transport. The silver jewelry was high quality, unique and well priced. I also splurged on a baby alpaca winter coat.

I visited this store twice at the recommendation of friends. The store is filled with Ecuadorian items for sale that are made by artisans all around the country.
I purchased a couple of items for friends on my first visit and a couple for myself on my second visit. The store staff are helpful when needed and, otherwise, leave you alone to peruse all that they have for sale.
I will definitely go back when I am next in Quito.
