The Naqqar Khana or the Drum House is where the court musicians used to play for the Mughal Emperor 5 times a day. It’s an interesting building. The side facing away from the main entrance is red sandstone like much of the complex, but the side facing the entrance is covered in white plaster. Both sides are richly decorated with floral motifs. The ceiling has nicely geometric patterned shapes decorated with floral motifs like the exterior walls. Naqqar Khana is another nice building to see when visiting the fort.

This is another beautiful building inside Red Fort, where during Mughal Kings time music was played in honour of and for the entertainment of Shahanshah. It is a must visit place if you want to relate to a history.

The Drum House (Naqqar Khana or Naubat Khana) is one of the buildings in the Red Fort and is included in entrance to the fort. It was here that musicians provided daily entertainment at scheduled times. They would also announce the arrival of the emperor and other dignitaries. My guide mentioned that everyone except royalty was required to dismount from their elephants and horses at the Drum House. Imagine the courtyard filled with elephants! This building could benefit from restoration.

During my holidays in Delhi, I had visited the giant Red Fort complex which is a UNESCO world heritage sight built during Mughal era and this place is located inside the fort. This is a white structure with as many as 9 intricately carved wooden windows at the top where musicians used to sit during Mughal era and play music when the Mughal emperor used to come inside the fort.

Also know as Naubat or 'Drum house’, it stands at the entrance of the Red Fort Area, it was used for playing music five times a day at propitious hours. Faced with red stone, it is a large three-storeyed building, rectangular on plan. Carved designs on its red stone walls appear to have been originally painted with gold, while the interior was painted in vivid colors. Today, it hosts the War Memorial museum, which is usually crowded during weekends and there is not too much to see inside of it. Entrance is included in your ticket price, 500 Rupees for foreigners and free for locals. Recommended for first time travelers to Red Fort.
