Very friendly and knowledgeable staff/volunteer that wanted to ensure we made the most of our brief trip to the area and provided us with plenty of information and things to do now and for future visits.

What a wonderful resource. The volunteer on duty has been incredibly helpful twice when we were in need of information and resources. Truly above and beyond!

Whether you're an AT hiker or visitor to Monson a stop at the ATC Visitor Center is well worth your time! Artifacts and memorabilia, maps and guide books, and expert first hand advice on Maine trails and the 100 Mile Wilderness. NoBos - get up-to-date help with Baxter State Park planning. SoBos - Monson's your first zero - pick up your ATC Tag and Passport stamp here! What a great idea this was to help ATers! :)

Whether you're an Appalachian Trail thru-hiker who's walked more than 2,000 miles from Georgia or a tourist looking for interesting things to do in the area, this stop if a must if you're passing through (or near) Monson. Even if you're not a hiker, it's worth a quick stop to learn about America's first national scenic trail and the world's most famous footpath.

The staff is incredibly knowledgeable about the area's many amazing day-hikes, the Appalachian Trail north and south, and the favorite spots that locals frequent.

The small center has a very cool, 3-D map of Katahdin (Maine's highest mountain), interesting exhibits, and books and maps and souvenirs for sale.

It also serves as one of the final check-ins for northbound Appalachian Trail "thru-hikers" about to complete their epic 2200-mile journey. Here they get all the info they need for the last leg of their journey, as they head into the legendary "100-mile wilderness" and get info about how to prepare for climbing the mile-high Katahdin in Baxter State Park. Chances are good that you'll be rubbing shoulders with one if you stop by from August through early October. (In June and July, you may see southbounders, who start at Katahdin, and are just a couple of weeks into their adventure). In between are "flip floppers" - a new breed of "thru-hikers" who start or end their hikes in the middle of the trail to avoid crowded conditions or weather extremes.

Be aware of the center's hours. This year they are open 8-11 and 1-5 (7 days a week) until Oct. 14, but it can change year to year.

Don't forget to check the events section of the Monson Appalachian Trail Visitor Center Facebook page for interesting programs frequently offered by the
