Mostly for the upper middle class. Dinning and amenities higher cost than Ocean city or Rehoboth. Not as much to do in comparison. If you're looking to have a quite low activity vacation, Deep Creek is the place.

We did some camping as a group. So, we usually have two sites with two tents on each. The pads here are just too small. The smallest we have seen so far. We didn't have the room to put two tables together.
The pads are also very hard. Many of our stakes were bent once we got them out again.
There is absolutely no alcohol allowed. (I believe a MD wide blessing...).
Privacy is limited. The trees are not dense and the small lots are next to each other.
Other than that its a very tidy campground and the facilities are kept clean.
The location is great! A short stroll to the lake.

Lots to do here. Hiking trails, small beach area, camping, discovery center.
I will mention that the discover center keeps turtles in very small and quit unkind conditions. They said they were working on something better for the turtles--and I hope that comes soon.

Beautiful park with many trails for all levels of ability. Trails were well marked and good for hiking and also for those who mountain bike.

Beautiful park with a short walk from the parking lot to the waterfront. The park was well maintained and the views were spectacular.
I do think that paying per person for parking one car was a little odd though as well as having to pay an additional fee for being out-of-state.

As a PA resident I'm not used to paying to visit a state park but $5 a head was certainly worth it when we visited. Park was clean and well maintained.

We spent a couple of enjoyable days hiking here with our dogs. They have a nice variety of trails varying from easy walks in the woods to some rocky trails with more challenging changes in elevation. None of the trails were overly difficult though, not even Thayer Trace which is designated as "difficult" on the trail map.

Water is warmer than air. Fun for kids but can get crowded. Beach has a life guard. Can also rent kayaks but must stay close to shore since motorized boats are on the lake.

Playgrounds, hiking, beach, clean facilities. We go daily when we visit Deep Creek! Aviary that is open awesome to see the birds. Staff is so nice!

You will still enjoy. There is peace to be found just hanging out around the campsite listening to nature.

How choppy are the waters over the weekends in the summer? I'm wondering if it'll be fun to kayak on a Sunday, or too much work (since I'm a beginner) if a lot of boat traffic is out. I know summer weekends are popular, but have never been on the water at that time.

We never go on the weekends because we have been told that they are crazy with people. So I assume that the water would be choppy but I think there is a law about when you can cause a wake. Look into that.
