What a tranquil place in the post-Labor Day, pre-Autumn season. Lots of easy short hikes or bike rides, a nice lake for short kayak trips--just a very relaxing way to spend a fe days.

We enjoyed hiking here one day with our dogs. The trails are wide and grassy. I would call it more of a walk in the woods than hiking because the trails aren't difficult or steep. I will say they aren't as well marked as the trails we hiked in DCL State Park or New Germany. There are quite a few connector trails and the printed trail map is not an accurate representation of all the trails and connectors you'll encounter. It's not a huge park so you won't get lost, but you may wander a little, which isn't always a bad thing when you're in a beautiful place! :)

Stayed in cabin 10 - a definite value. A basic cabin with wood paneling and a loft. The kitchen was basic, but fit our needs. Walked the trials in the morning and visited the area during the day.

Beach and fishing area. Great for renting Kayaks or paddle boards. No motorized boats allowed. Less crowded than Deep Creek State Park

We visited Herrington Manor State Park on the third weekend in May. We stayed in Cabin 4 with our four sons. 4.5 stars rounded up
PROS:
*Beds for everyone! It's a little tricky that the only double bed is downstairs in the main room but everyone else is upstairs in a huge open loft so it worked out fine.
*Full kitchen!
*Clean bathroom!
*picnic table outside by the kitchen door
*lots of trees for hammocks
*porch swing
*amazing trails right by the cabin
*wildlife is so lovely
*playground/basketball court/tennis court right nearby
*communal fire pit with wood stacked and ready to go (we had no problem using it when we wanted to)
*friendly staff
*check in was a breeze
*I loved the pull through parking at our site - and the loop road is great for walking and scootering
*there is a little sandy beach! You can rent boats between Memorial Day and Labor Day, which we couldn't do, but we enjoyed beach time! We could walk there from the cabin (there is one pretty steep hill)
CONS:
*not a lot of outlets, especially near the beds - if you use devices I'd bring a few extension cords, we were glad we brought ours
*no fire pit at the cabin, this was a real bummer - there is a grill but if you want a campfire you have to use the communal one
*our fire place was more of a woodburning stove instead of an open roaring fire (if that matters)
*it is DARK in the loft in the back of the room away from the stairs - if you have kiddos that need at least a tiny bit of light I'd bring something they could put by their beds
Overall, our visit here was SO PEACEFUL and fun - I highly recommend the park itself. Small but with everything we needed.

Looking to trade work, stress, internet and the bad news that comes with it, for nature, hikes, quite and centering the soul? Come here for a few days! We stayed at cabin 10. That means we were at the end (only 1 neighbor) and our dogs came with us.
The trails are easy and wide open. Plenty of streams and wildlife noises. The cabins have what you need - electricity, heat, plumbing, and basic kitchen essentials. You bring sheets, pillows, towels and anything else you may need.
Tap water was great-no funky taste at all! Shower got hot after just a minute or so. The baseboard heat was more than enough to make chilly mornings easier to deal with.
Four days was the perfect amount to do multiple hikes a day and also to check out some other sites nearby.

I loved the trails between the lake and the falls, very peaceful and not as crowded as Swallow Falls

First let me say that we loved our 2 nights in cabin 19 and would definitely come back.
But here is all the information that I wish I had before we went. (some of it I did find but here it is in one easy post):
1. Bring all sheets and towels, toiletries etc.
2. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, plates, etc but the knives are terrible.
3. The stove works for the most part. Our one large burner didn't work well but we managed.
4. The fireplace is a wood burning stove not an open fire place - not a highlight as there is plenty heat from the baseboard heat and it would be so much nicer to look at a roaring fire in our cabin. Opening the doors of the stove only create a smoke filled cabin and very angry smoke alarms.
5. The sledding hill is great. Bring a sled or pick up a cheapo at Wally World in Oakland.
6. Check-in is exactly at 4:00. Don't count on early check-in.
7. Cell service is BAD. No WiFi
In short, we had a great time and loved our time in Herrington Manor - Cabin 19.

Herrington has a lot of activities for everyone. The cabins are very clean and the Kodiak wood stove is so wonderful. They give you plenty of wood for it as well. We had a good experience. Don’t try to check in before 4pm. They won’t post your cabin code before that. But there is a soccer field and a basketball court to hang out at. (And a playground). The cabins are far enough apart that you aren’t on top of anyone.
We also did some hiking. The green hike is nice and flat and great for little ones.
I highly recommend staying for a couple nights.

Nice little State Park. We stopped while in the area for the Autumn Glory Festival and this was a stop on their suggested fall foliage drives. We are glad we did. We sat by the reservoir and relaxed. There was only two other groups of people there. It was a beautiful Friday autumn day and so serene.
There as a nice swimming area if the weather had been warmer. . There are trails to hike. Not a place where you have the noise of boats and the beach looks nice for young kids to play on.

Can you post a pic of the cabin loop showing where each cabin is located and numbered?

Are kayaks and canoes availabke for rent every day? How much do they cost and how kong are rentals?
ksramsey11
Baltimore, MD
With a cabin rental you get 1 free hour per day. If not renting or if you want more not sure of exact price but is not expensive.
Do I need to bring chairs for the fire area or is there built in seating?
ksramsey11

There are places to sit but if you want a comfy chair you can bring one.

Can anyone recommend specific cabins? One reviewer noted hers faced the woods which sounds lovely. We have a toddler and a newborn, so we're looking for somewhere quiet but not too far of a walk to activities. Also, is there somewhere to look for activities schedules? A reviewer noted they have campfires and marshmallows but I don't see anything about family activities on dnr's website. Thanks in advance!

I am also looking for the map of the cabin loop. Used to be on the website. Now all I see is a picture that says click here but it's not a link it's only a picture. When you arrive you will get a paper showing all activities with days and times. Nature hikes, smores, stories, fishing, plenty of kids activities. I do know cabin 18 faces woods. Also 2-5. I assume 1,19, and 20 also do. And several past number 5 but then they start on the other side of the road(not woods)
