A very pleasant little State Park located on if course Ostego Lake. The view is spectacular. When you drive in the beach is in front of you and is very nice. However what you can't see right away is there are no dogs allowed on that beach. Which we were told off by the staff. However it turns out they do have a Dog Beach. The bad news is, it is horribly labeled. Signs don't cost that much how about a little help! Anyways you follow the path North from the parking lot, starting behind the Bathrooms. You'll walk about a half mile and finally see the one sign Dog Beach with an arrow down the stairs. Once you get down the stairs you immediately see a sign that says no dogs on Beach, that's it. So you continue going North and about a quarter to a third of a mile down you'll see a dog baggy station, so I guess at that point you've arrived.
Anyways the view here is also spectacular and they have benches. This us always a big plus to me and I wish all beaches had benches! The Dog loved it and thought everything smelled intriguing.
Overall a 4 star review. Needs better signage, but a great place to spend some time. Would I return? Absolutely!

I’ve camped here when I was a little girl. Many times in fact. My parents always had to have site 99, 98, or 97. They had to be next to the playground. So they could watch my sis and I.
We had a pop up camper, a tent, and a screen tent back in the day. Along with dad had to have those particular spots so we could string up his thousands camper lights all around the site. We loved to camp here my sis and I .
We loved to ride our bikes, go for walks, etc.
I remember going through the trails from our camp site to the camp store to get the Morning news paper. That was a big deal back then.
Well I’m 50 years old now, still love camping.
Yes. The north end loops bathrooms definitely need an update. They are the same as 40 years ago or more. This campground is beautiful… completely pristine. I was looking forward to showing my husband where I camped when I was a little girl. He and i weren’t that impressed . Site 34 was ours. The traffic noise from 127 is super LOUD !!!! I really believe that’s why I won’t come back yo camp here.
I know the Michigan’s DNR, is all about letting thing be natural . Natural is good I’m all for it.
However, you might consider a sound wall some how. The train isn’t even that big of an issue. The traffic noise is completely not relaxing at any time of the day or night.
It takes away from the serene ambiance of camping, or one might be looking for…

This was the first time me and my family stayed at Otsego Lake State Park. We camped for one night on campsites 97 and 98. These campsites are spacious and have lots of trees for shade and are great for hammocks. Between the two sites we had one very large tent and three smaller tents with room to spare. The back of these sites face an open area where several of us were able to play frisbee. The park itself was well-kept and quiet even though they were at max capacity. Everyone we passed was very friendly. The bathrooms were clean and well-maintained. They even have separate shower rooms if you need to take a shower. We’d highly recommend camping at this state park!!
Note: The max number of people per campsite is 6 with an unlimited number of tents as long as they’re within the campsite boundaries.

THAT'S THE DOG BEACH??!!! First timers at this park and will not be back. The park was full of campers with dogs that could not swim due to the extremely sub-par dog beach. I spoke with a park ranger who indicated the lake levels have been high for "several years" and shucks, there is no other location within the park for your dog to swim. Notably, the beach for people was EXTENSIVE and another part of the beach could have been designated for dogs without difficulty

This state park is somewhat of a hidden gem, I don't see many people talk about it on camping pages but it's a great park. The lake is huge and shallow. Perfect for young kids swimming, pontoon boats, and fishing. Many of the sites have a water view, ours (111) even had a stairway of about 20 steps that went right into the shallow water. About a foot deep, we said if we had a little fishing boat it would have been easy to anchor there and hang out at camp for a little bit. The sites on the south side have a modern bathroom that was very nice. First camping trip in years that I took more than 1 shower, haha. The boat launch is a busy place and kind of fun to watch people load and unload their stuff, we silently critiqued them and imagined what some people do or do not do for a living 😀. I need a boat, and when I get one I'm coming back here. The beach is super long, sandy and lots of shallow water to play in. Tons of Eastern Swallowtail butterflies are everywhere, which I really enjoyed! There's a camp store right at the beach, they sell ice cream! Perfect for a day at the beach. Let the kids get really messy then throw them in the lake. They also rent stand up paddle boards for 15/hr. Camp sites have many trees and people that kept to themselves. Good camping

We stopped here on our way home from Munising so the little one could swim at the beach and so I could do some fishing. Had an excellent day, daughter loved the beach and I had the chance to catch a Tiger Muskie right off of the pier, only a 28 incher but it was pretty amazing.

Nice big park with a lot of nice size lots, but be careful some of the lots are pretty sloped. The bathrooms could definitely use an upgrade they are old in the north loop but they were kept very clean. The dog beach is terrible. Literally even a beach just about 30-40 very steep stairs that go right to the water that is about two feet deep. It is hard to step down into it. The beaches themselves are very nice and spacious. All the lots seem very sandy and rocky and some of the lots have tons of tree roots throughout the whole lot. I would not be happy to get one of those. The staff seemed to do a great job keeping the park clean. The lake is huge and nice and clean.

Probably our favorite State Park. Lots of big sites. We have a 42 foot 5th wheel and have no problem. Love the beach area and dog swim area. Great campground for families. Nice playground and lots of space for walking and hiking. Halloween camping in October is the best, so much fun. Tradition for our kids and grandkids.

Years ago my father, brother, and I would often camp at Otsego lake. There use to be boat rentals operating out of the park store. Do they still offer such service?
Escrita el 23 de septiembre de 2018
Yes believe they do.
The name of the store is Derminers Parkside Market and their number is 979-705-7051

Yes, Pets are welcome on a 6-foot leash in Michigan state parks, park campgrounds, state forest (rustic) campgrounds, state forests, non-designated bathing beach areas, harbors and the majority of trails and boat launches.

I just read this review, and I was so excited to read this because I just reserved this same site for august. I have never been here, and was hesitant because I usually stay on Lake Michigan.
Thank you.

I'm getting married in June and wanted to know if you'd allow a wedding on the beach?
Escrita el 10 de marzo de 2017
I think you should immediately call the Otsego Lake State Park Office or Ranger's Office and try to secure or make reservations for holding a wedding on their beach. I would hope that you can... And congratulations.
I looked on line for some phone numbers that might help you:

You shouldn't have any problem finding "firewood" while at Otsego Lake State Park. Every Michigan State Park I've ever stayed at, where campfires are permitted, usually sell firewood at the park store. Plus, up and down Highway Old-27 there will be many road side firewood for sale opportunities. It's been many years, but the last time my family camped at OLSP we drove a few miles south to Frederic and purchased a whole station wagon full of wood slabs that were rejects from a company that made plaques. It cost me $ 1.95. The sweet lady insisted on making change for the $2 that I gave her. The cash register she used was an old cigar box! Memories...ah! I hope this info helps you and other campers.
