We spent 2 1/2 weeks in Colombia and this coffee tour was by far the highlight of the holiday, we truly enjoyed ourselves picking up the beautiful coffee beans and learning all about the process from picking the “berry” like coffee beans, tasting them right up to drinking the delicious aromatic coffee.
We were provided with a delicious lunch “fiambre” it is what the workers eat on a working day and it was delicious.
The owner Juan Carlos took us into his own home and explained to us all the different type of coffee beans, he is an amazing host, extremely well knowledgeable and really lovely and friendly. After lunch we went to his coffee shop in the local village (Caldas) and we learned about the different ways of making coffee and how the way the coffee is prepared it can help or impare the flavour.
All in all a very enjoyable experience, well worth the price and Juan Carlos is a fantastic host who speaks perfect English.

Thank you Juan Carlos for the experience

This was an absolutely fascinating and enjoyable day out.

I had reservations, as I thought it was going to be a whirlwind visit to a coffee factory where in zoo-like fashion we and a bus-load of loud Americans would stare at the local workers who would be forced to endure intrusive tourists watching their every move.

But not a bit of it!

It was a true artisan, local, owner-managed operation providing fine coffee and a brace of awards to go with it.We had full explanation of how coffee is produced from planting a coffee tree sapling to grinding the final resulting beans. We were the only visitors

We started by donning coffee bean picking buckets and picking the red 'berries' ourselves. He showed us his coffee machine working (shelling the beans we had picked ourselves), giving a full explanation how it all works. Amazingly, we were shown that if you squeeze a red coffee berry and extract the coffee bean and then place the bean in your mouth, it has a very sweet and sticky surround.

He then took us up to his own house where he showed us a collection of coffee machines and domestic coffee makers from over the years. We were provided with lunch in his own back yard dining room, with superb views over the Andes as well as further details as to how well-regulated the coffee industry is if you want to be seen as an artisan or specialist provider. And he has the certificates to prove it!

Following this, we were taken to his coffee house in the local town and demonstrated to how the brewing process used can really affect the taste. I was absolutely fascinated by the fact that filtering and then placing the same identical coffee grounds in a cafetière produce a totally different taste from the same identical coffee beans! The three others in the party like the cafetière version while I preferred the filtered version.

A really superb day out. Lovely quality coffee enjoyed and purchased. And most surprisingly, despite the simplicity of the process, the owner uses the best ethical and environmentally-friendly process to produce his coffee! And his workers, although they do have to work hard (by our western standards), are treated fairly.

Rally superb and quite recommended.

A wonderfully educational tour with Juan walking me through the whole process from seedling to coffee cup. I learned how little I knew about coffee! But now, I am a master according to Juan :-) Also enjoyed meeting his lovely daughter that runs the cafe and social media for the business. Both are two of the warmest and friendliest people you’ll meet! Highly endorse the tour!!

This is a typical coffee plantatión on the outskirts of medellín.colombia. The owner personally showed US all around And explaind in great detail all of the steps in the coffee production.
We then had a delicious lunch which is similar to what the workers would take to their work areas.
This was quite a highlight of our trip
