Excellent place to snowshoe along the old railroad track from NYC to the Catskills. The snow covered trees beside the frozen lake. We took side excursions off trail up the hill following snowmobile trails and along the frozen lake. Saw some great pick up hockey.

I stumbled upon this path a little too late in the evening. It seems like it would be a nice peaceful walk through a mostly covered trail, but I WAS NOT comfortable walking it after 7:30pm. You are completely surrounded by trees and wildlife, while in the datetime seems really nice and relaxing, but as the sun sets, it looks a little menacing. Otherwise, it would make a nice early morning stroll/jog. I would visit it again... but during the DAY!

Goes a couple miles in both directions out of Tannersville Lake. As they extend this it will only get better, Believe they have plans to attach this to where the falls rail trail is at the top of the Mtn road. Make sure you stop in at Hunter mountain outfitters for any hiking and biking needs.

If you are into nature, you should not miss this. Just wear comfortable and not slippery shoes and do not forget to get an anti insect spray.

This was a nice 2-3/4 mile walk round trip. A slight downhill on the way out, which wasn’t strenuous coming back.

This is a wide and well-maintained, packed dirt, multi-use trail (walk/bike/XC, no motorized vehicles allowed, but they still use it) that was created by a local science classroom of students on the former bed of the Huckleberry Railroad which started at the Catskill Mountain House. I have read that it is approximately 2.7 miles long, but feels much shorter. It is a 5-minute walk from the center of the town of Tannersville (walk up the steps next to Last Chance Restaurant, take the downhill road on the right of the parking lot, until you are just passed the lake. The trail starts here), borders Tannersville Lake, (AKA Rip Van Winkle Lake), is shaded by tall trees, starts at a town playground (good activity for the kids before, or after your walk), and ends at the former Cortina Ski Area (also a fun area to "investigate"), There are a few pathways that branch off uphill from the trail to who-knows-where, but I have not ventured onto them as yet. There is minimal parking on the playground side, and a bit more on the Cortina/Crum Hill Road side.
