I've been on many rafting trips, and this staff was one of the best. A polite employee helped me pick the right trip for me by phone before I arrived. They had a real emphasis on safety throughout the day. I enjoyed the full day tour, with some light padding in the morning and rapids in the afternoon. The guide provided a comprehensive mix of geology, history, geography, local stories, and clear instructions that got our raft in the right place in the water and through some close passages that were open because the water flow allowed. The kids in my boat were really looking forward to the jump rock, which did not disappoint. The low prices at the shop and healthy lunch were an added bonus!

My girl gang thoroughly enjoyed our day trip on the river. Our guide Jordan was very knowledgeable, clearly experienced, and definitely easy on the eyes! He was also easy going, was tolerant of our colorful language and rolled with all of our inappropriate jokes. If I had any complaints at all it would be that the water was just too wet and Jordan, while friendly and accommodating, did not accept any of our advances and declined to come home with us. Other than that, I’d rate this an A+ time!

Highly recommend! Was pleasantly surprised by the cost of their half-day trip as well as the souvenirs in their gift shop. Our guides were very skilled and knowledgeable in terms of rafting and educating us on the river/local area. Our guide remained cool, calm and collected when we got stuck between some rocks and one of our raft mates got tossed overboard, whoops. Despite this, we felt very prepared and safe in the case of someone ending up in the rapids. Had such a great time and enjoyed the cliff jumping and swimming that complemented the whitewater rafting. So much fun!

White water rafting was wilder than a rodeo on a rubber duck! I swear, I got more water up my nose than in the entire river. Our guide, Paul, had us paddle like we were training for the Olympics, and I'm pretty sure my arms are now twice their size from all that rowing. Despite feeling like a drowned rat, I'd do it again in a heartbeat—nothing beats the thrill of conquering those rapids and trying not to fall out of the boat laughing. We got out to swim through a class 1 rapid and I did almost drown my husband but we still had a great day!

Such a low price for such great memories to be obtained! The staff are so kind, experienced and caring. Easy online booking! Lunch included an entire sandwich bar set up right on the river! We highly suggest doing the all day float with the class 4 rapid.

The expert staff and guides greeted our bus with enthusiasm. They continued their excellent presentations and procedures without a hiccup or a raised eyebrow when they saw the average age of our group of 17 was 78 years plus. We had a fabulous day on the water in the pouring rain and finished with the marvelous lunch in their pavilion "back at the shop." Doug, Laura and Matt made our day on the French Broad marvelous and memorable.

Stop , you have found your rafting company , first time rafter here. Every staff member was friendly and so patient with answering questions and guiding us thought out the whole day. The guides have so much knowledge of the French Broad River and surrounding area. They really do think of everything you will need from free sunscreen at checkin and plastic bags to but your wet clothes in . The restrooms and showers are super clean , well the whole place is clean and super organized. They don't over charge from photos , tshirts, hats , and $10 river shoes . Lunch is simple and fresh , they are so prepared and environmental conscious. We saw so much wildlife , from deer wading in the river , bald eagle and of course blue heron. If I could give them 10 stars I would . Thank you for the wonderful adventure and my membership into the French broad swim team .

Our trip up the French Broad River with Jordan as our guide was awesome! Safety was a priority with Blue Herron Whitewater, as well as a fun filled adventure for the novice, as well as more experienced rafters. Class 1-3 rapids on the half day trip. Jordan was very informative and explained things about the local area as we traveled. Can’t say enough good things about todays experience that our group had. Will DEFINITELY be back and use them again! Thanks to all their staff, (including Nate) who was our trusty bus driver, who began our trip and ended it safely.

A wonderful experience. Just enough thrills, lots of beauty, unforgettable journey. Best of all was the very informative staff and their attention to safety. Jordan, our guide was terrific and made it all so much fun. We’ve done these trips elsewhere but this was the best one!

We have been on several rafting trips throughout the country and this was one of the best experiences. The entire staff was knowledgeable and attentive. The group we were with ranged from 8 to 60 and everyone’s needs were met. Each raft had no more than 6 passengers and 1 guide. Our raft’s guide was Sydney and she was amazing. She gave the clearest instructions and was so calm that she relieved everyone’s anxiety. The trip was so fun! We took the 1/2 day trip and it was so fun. It left us wanting more! The company had a photographer taking photos throughout the trip and the price for all the photos of your raft and group was extremely reasonable. It was great to walk away with a thumb drive with the photos at the end of the day. We would definitely do this again.

For first timers age 17, 52 and 57, would you recommend the full day with class 4? My husband and son are adrenaline junkies (me, not somuch, lol), so I'm afraid the half day trip won't be enough of a thrill for them. We are all physically active and in good health. Also, silly question, but how do you stay in the boat? Lol.

Yes, we had rafters with no experience and they loved it. Listen to and follow the safety guidelines. Keep control of your oar and listen to your raft guide. I hope you love it as much as we did.

I don't see too much information for "large size"people. Hubby and I are in our 60's. We both weigh over 200 pounds - but are in good health. Will this be a problem??

We used Blue Heron Outfitters on The French Broad, They put in at a common picnic area local access, and take out at the Old Historical House on the Hill.
