Follow the winding paths at Tsútswecw Provincial Park (formerly known as Roderick Haig Brown) that are surrounded forest leading to the Adams River where you witness the end of the arduous journey of the Sockeye Salmon. The fish can be seen from the “viewing platform” or from many other places along the river. Walk down to where the fish enter the Adams River at Shuswap lake to see the “waiting” fish grouped together. You can even scuba dive with them (escorted, of course). DO NOT walk in the water as you may kill already laid eggs and destroy the stream bed. A must see to witness how these fish contribute to our Earth and all of its inhabitants.
There are educational opportunities and vendors (food & artists) on sight as well.
This run is best seen in October.
There is an earlier run at Scotch Creek in September. This one has no formal viewing and vendors. Access is not that great. If you do go to this less crowded show please remember to park off the road and stay out of the water.

Its a nice hike, keep your dog on the leash! Some people came to soon and saw nothing others came to late and saw and smelt the dead so it's important to hit it perfectly and that depends on the water temperature and weather conditions, Smoke sure check there web site for updates.

This place has it all. The parking is $5 so make sure you have cash on hand. The salmon run is an amazing event. There are several hiking trails as well. There are information booths, and food trucks. There was also an Atm machine on site as well.

The aboriginal community have created a full days experience with the opportunity to walk to the edge of the river at many places to catch the spawning experience. There are displays, food, vendors and the traffic is handled very well. Bring a sweater and a camera

We were staying in Salmon Arm and decided to take the quite short drive over to Tsutswecw Provincial Park (nee Roderick Haig-Brown Provincial Park). This was a peak salmon run year so we were expecting quite a show. In fact it was interesting but not overwhelming though perhaps that is because we were not there at the peak of the peak. The presence of a couple of dozen busloads of school children also made actually viewing the salmon a bit challenging. We made a half a day out of it though by walking some of the trails and looking at the various displays and vendors there for the salmon festival. So considering the only cost was a couple of bucks for parking and then buying our lunches from a food truck yes it was worth it. I'm not sure though that making a special trip to the Shuswap just for this would have been other than disappointing.

The salmon run was somewhat underwhelming as I have seen much better at the same place but there’s nothing anyone could have done to make the experience better. The reason for this is that there are an estimated 7M salmon waiting to complete their spawning (&life) by swimming upstream.
We were about a week earlier than the conditions that the fish are waiting for.
Had the “late” run occurred, the sights/ experience would have been incredible.
If you have the time and/or interest, you should check it out. Very well set up and educational.

The Adams River Salmon Run is absolutely worth a visit - particularly as this is a dominant year for the return. The park is beautiful with several walking trails - some of which take you to various viewing points along the water. You will see lots of Eagles and perhaps be lucky and see a bear getting an easy meal. The staff at the park are well-organized with parking, tickets, programs etc., Some food available.

Looking to go there tomorrow, September 23, 2018. I'm concerned for a couple of things. Would there be salmon running now? As well, is the park opened at the weekends? I read that this area is only open Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 4:00. Sunday should be a lovely sunny day so I am hoping all goes well. Any information would be great.

Although the best time to see the salmon run is September 28 to October 21, are there any salmon at all running mid September?
Escrita el 15 de septiembre de 2018
Each year is different and each type of salmon (coho, spring, pink, etc) can and do run at different times.
Mid-September this year has a coho run.

getting mixed messages re when to see the salmon run? we are from sydney, australia. plan to catch cruise from vancouver august 25 2019. can we see salmon run at kamloops on our way to vancouver ? will be driving.

The best thing you could do is Google Adams River Salmon Run for lots of information and best times. The sockeye run is generally September-October but it all depends on water levels, drought and what Mother Nature decides to do. I really think August is a little early. Adams River is east of Kamloops by about 45 minutes. You take the Celista/Squilax turn off to cross the river/lake. Enjoy yourselves here.

Hi there and many thanks for your contribution. Please could you advice if the salmon run is something where we could take our kids to experience? Also, we will be near Chase , Adams River about 25th of October. Could this be too late? Many thanks, Hamlet

The Adams river run is great opportunity for kids to see the life cycle of the sockeye salmon and it's life. The best is to contact or Google Adams river salmon run note sockeye. Fisheries has an excellent paper on dates and locations of BC salmon runs and good locations. Sockeye in Adams run in mid october generally but like all things in nature may be affected by numbers or water as rivers low in drought conditions. My recommendation is call Fisheries or contact the Adams river sockeye association .
Have fun and great outing for kids along river and in park . Free as well if you enter park and take trails to river. Donations to salmon enhancement to association who helped establish the park welcomed I am sure. There are of course commercial tours but this may be best in family group on your own if some pretty reading and understanding carried out. Have great holiday on Sushwap .

you would have to contact a local tour company for info. If you are driving your own vehicle you can drive down squailax anglemount road to Adams river bridge and park in vehicle park and view salmon on trail along river. Secondly you can continue to Roderick Haig Brown park and salmon viewing center. big parking lot and where tours park to walk trail back to Adams river. Both place end up same places and trails. my recommendation if driving your own vehicle is first as less tour buses and more local use as closer walks. Once viewed drive to salmon center to get history and info at RHB Park.
There are commercial tours of trails and river park including two wheel segways and walking but not involved with any or have used any for this tour. have fun. Check to see if salmon running before doing tour.
