I had been here with family before 17 years ago, so I was looking forward to vistiing again. The staff member who was positioned at the top of the lighthouse was very informative, but then I heard him grousing to other staff members about being stuck on top for longer than he wanted. Not very diplomatic. The signage on the trail to the shipwreck has deteriorated to the point the plaque is either missing or the text is not legible.

Bring binoculars. We saw whales in the water. The lighthouse is sturdy and well-built. We climbed up the winding stairs of the lighthouse with other visitors and lighthouse staff. It also has museum items on display. There are washrooms and a gift shop in a different building.

The tour was well worth the small fee. A guide took us up into the top of the lighthouse. We were a group of senior citizens with the usual aches and pains, but the trip up the steps to the top was entirely do-able. Our guide was very informative and personable. The icing on the cake was watching whales out in the straits. Amazing!

Point Amour Lighthouse stands white and tall and provides a panoramic view of the surrounding land and sea. It is part of a series of lighthouses designed to dramatically provide safer passage for ships. To get to the top one must traverse 132 narrow steps....up on top the view is impressive. This climb makes an excellent stair-master workout and is the equivalent of 11 Fitbit stairclimbs.

This is a tall lighthouse with great views and some signage to explain its history. Right now there is construction on the road to get there so it’s slow going.

We visited the lighthouse on a particularly windy day. Kind of gave us a feel for what life might have been back in the day! The lady who guided us to the top of the lighthouse was very helpful, friendly and informative. We learned the history of the lighthouse and it’s keepers. The mini museum was packed with maps, artifacts and clothing of the day, which visitors were allowed to wear and imagine. We’ll worth the time if you’re in the area.

This was a short visit. We enjoyed the view from the top, a look at how the lighthouse keepers lived and some stories from the staff.

Tallest lighthouse in Atlantic Canada. Our tour guide was excellent and very knowledgeable. The staff are all local and happy to answer questions. The museum and grounds are very interesting

My husband and I have been visiting Newfoundland and Labrador every July for the past 24 years and this is one of my favorite stops. You approach on a gravel road winding very close to the ocean past the archaic burial site of a boy and past a small community of all Davis families. There is also the remains of shipwrecks . The Davis family rescued some of the sailors and as a reward the king of England granted the family rights to that land in perpetuity. The lighthouse stands tall overlooking the ocean and one look at the coast will tell you why it is here. You can go inside and climb the steps to the top or just take in the scenery from the ground. In early summer you could be lucky and see icebergs and whales here. There is also a small gift shop and restrooms in a separate building, There is also an ample parking lot. Enjoy!
