Beautiful

We come quite regularly for a wander just to escape. It’s great for families to wander with dogs and bikes. Very scenic and it is possible to walk for ages without encountering hills or inclines. There are rivers and streams and lots to explore.
Parking is available in several locations but can get very busy, especially in the Summer.

Beautiful spot for a meal and a hike through woodland. Parking is free but it can be a bit tight if you have a big car.

This is a gorgeous spot. We wanted to avoid Alton Towers after dropping my teenage son and his mates;this was the perfect antidote to a theme park. Beautiful setting with gorgeous food on offer.

Defintly worth a visit

Lovely place to visit with ample routes to walk. Recommended you print off a map and take it with you as there are not many signs telling you where to go so easy to get abit lost. two car parks which are decent size. Nice to see the Chained Oak tree and Old Alton Station which is now private property so dont climb up on the Platform or you will get shouted if anybody is in there as its now holiday accomodation. I was oblivious. Free parking. Overall some very nice views and photo opportunities

We have been coming to Dimmings dale for over 30 years and we never cease to be amazed by how beautiful it is. Of course there are lots of walks but probably the best thing about the walks around here is the coffee shop amongst the woods that sell the must delicious cakes.

Stunning!

Had a beautiful walk here with friends- there's so many routes and options for all abilities! A good tip is to grab a Forestry England map from the Ramblers Retreat Tea Room before you set off! And make sure to get lunch or a cake from the Ramblers- it's famous locally and we can see why- so much better than any of the other local options.

Lovely walk

Lovely walk, rather busy at the ramblers retreat where you park, bins overflowing and people crowded together, no masks in sight while all crowded together, that's why I dropped a star. We came here to see the chained Oak that the Hex ride is based on which was a very short walk from the ramblers retreat. Lovely to see horse riders along the bridal path and mountain bikers enjoying the route. Everyone sticking to social distancing in the route and being very polite saying hello, it was great to get us all outside after months of being stuck indoors. We then walked over to the Smelting Mill and Mill Pond area, beautiful to sit by the pond, lovely. Shame the overcrowded ramblers retreat let it down with its lack of social distancing and overflowing bins and heavily overpriced menu for drinks, glad I took my own food and drink and took my rubbish home in a bag. Lovely place for a walk.

Shhhh don't tell anyone how amazing it is!

This delightful valley in the Churnet Valley & Staffordshire Moorlands beats any site in the Peak District National Park. Free parking is available at the valley's tea room- the Ramblers Retreat, which serves the most delicious homemade cakes, lunches and coffee. The main route- Earl's Drive can be busy, but the maps at the cafe show so many more routes, we've got more we want to go back and do. Lots of family friendly walks and more adventurous ones. The Forestry Commission volunteers are also very friendly and helpful!

Great place for a long dog walk

Starting at the Rambler's Retreat there are two very different trails you can take - one very steep one with amazing views, or a flat walk around the lake and along the river. Both are worth the trip. Plus free parking and a treat from the tearoom at the end.

Fantastic place, took teen & dog and we all loved it. Spent about 4 hours here, parked near cricket club and walked up old railway line to the ramblers retreat. Set off on the red path and followed it round the woods. Beautiful sights, plenty of benches to rest for those that need it. Lush greenery, beautiful waters, birds and animals all about. At the end we stopped in at the ramblers and had some tasty snacks and drinks.
