Disappointing that Fort Perch Rock, which should be open as an important museum, is closed permanently.

It should be open to the public. It's permanently closed & going to rack & ruin.
This is an important historic building, built in 1826 & is now privately owned. It's on a prominent part of New Brighton beach & is an amazing building, which should be a tourist attraction, not just left closed for years.

The Gibraltar Of The River Mersey

Constructed between 1825 - 1829 Fort Perch Rock is a wonderful landmark structure, probably the most famous landmark in New Brighton.
Known as The Gibraltar Of The River Mersey, this fort was once bristling with heavy guns and was a major defence against the threat of invasion.
We passed this structure as we were wandering around the promenade area, looked closed to the public but it was still very impressive, very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities and is most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning a trip to New Brighton.

Fort Perch Rock is a really interesting landmark along the beach and promenade of New Brighton.
Constructed between 1825 - 1829 the fort was built as a defence for the port of Liverpools, originally bristling with 18 heavy guns its a beautiful Grade II listed building that was locally know as The Gibraltar Of The Mersey and adds to the joy of walking 🚶‍♂️ along the promenade, my twin brother Stephen and I were heading to The Seahorse Pub and passed the fort ,very photogenic, makes for some great photographic opportunities and is most definitely well worth checking out if you're planning a trip to New Brighton.

Walking along New Brighton Promenade you come across what in my opinion is the most famous landmark in this seaside resort namely Fort Perch Rock.
A former defence installation and constructed in the 1820's to defend the Port Of Liverpool.
The actual fort was constructed between 1825 - 1829 and built in the area known as Black Rock ,during its heyday this Grade II listed building was bristling with 18 guns and gained the nickname of " Gibraltar Of The Mersey " .
It's such an evocative looking structure, my twin brother were walking down the promenade and with waves smashing against the coast the fort looked magnificent, great dramatic photographic opportunities.
Most definitely well worth checking out if your in the area.

Fort NOT permanently closed
feb. de 2019
Reports that the Fort is permanently closed are premature. I spoke to the owner who reported back that they had a major drainage problem which had not yet been resolved. MY 'visit' date is fiction as I needed to make this notification.

Impressive landmark but permanently closed to visitors.

I live near here and I can't believe how many people still believe they can visit the museum or walk around inside the fort. This is due to misleading sites (including the official one for the fort) not being updated with the facts. It's been closed for years, you can't get in! You can however sit on the beach, take photos of the murals and visit the excellent local cafes, pubs and restaurants in the area (particularly Victoria Road).

Could be good

If this was in Scotland it would be a fantastic visitor place,
This could be made into a lovely focal point against the new buildings built near by.
Looks to have been sadly neglected, definitely not open, maybe someone will have the ability to make this into a visitor attraction.

It’s a great looking fort that needs some attention.

It’s a shame this building isn’t looked after and utilised properly, it would make a great seaside attraction for this area, it’s a great feature of the beach and would be good if it was open t the public and cared for.
