Best free experience in southern Victoria
may. de 2021
What a grand experience this was to visit Fort Nepean. It is hard to believe that you can wander amongst old forts complete with a myriad of underground tunnels and sound effects - and all for free entry. The only 'cost' is a walk of 2.5 kms from the carpark after the entry into the Port Nepean National Park .... and it is an easy walk too!

I believe this is one of the best free experiences in Victoria and certainly the best in southern Victoria! It is also so rare these days to visit well-preserved historic sites like this. Give yourself a few hours as you don't want to rush a trip through this fascinating place. You should note that there are no facilities (like cafe or shops) there, so take your own food and water. But there are toilets.

Reward at the end of a walk

Lovely walk, minus the biting flies, but the fort and tunnels were great with lots of information and history to take in.

If you are interested in sailing, there are plants of opportunities to encapsulate this breathtaking coastal waters on the Mornington Peninsula.

Pick up a boat with a good crews, leaving from Blairgowrie sailing swiftly along coastal waters to Sorrento and Quarantine Point.

If you are a sailing enthusiast, you won’t be disappointed!

Great Few Hours For Free
ene. de 2020
If you love a hike, love historical sites, including where a sitting Prime Minister disappeared, love a view and particularly love it all for free, this is the place for you. There is a bit of walking involved if you want to see it all but a free shuttle bus can take you straight to Fort Nepean, missing out all the sites inbetween. A great half day out.

Decided to cycle to here from home, 65 Kms then you can cycle thru the park and right along to the Fort steps!
So I did and it’s beautiful... I spent 2 hours wandering around looking inside the fort made also up onto the parade ground and down to the old pump rooms... Really enjoyed and could feel the history.. First shot fired in anger from here in WW1... For the British forces.
I rode back along the track and into the Gunners House... Then back towards the Quarantine Area... So interesting I just walked around looking in windows and imaging arriving here in The late 1880’s.. Awesome!!
Highly recommend and Its all free 😀

Cool historical site!

Lovely views of this site of military history that overlooks the beautiful ocean. There is also a free shuttle bus that could take you all the way to Fort Nepean, at an additional cost (vehicles aren't allowed along the road to the Fort aside from the shuttle bus).

Fort Nepean's big guns guarded Melbourne from foreign invasion, from the Gold Rushes to World War II. Fort Nepean is right at the tip of the Mornington Peninsula. There's lots to see, above ground and below ground. Anyone with an interest in military history will love Point Nepean. The waters off Fort Nepean are notoriously treacherous. The Rip has claimed many ships. James Baillieu, founder of the Baillieu dynasty, is said to have swum across the Rip, though even his own family can't agree on it. William James's son, known as "Big Bill" Baillieu. was one of Australia's most influential businessmen. By the way, keep to the tracks, there's still unexploded ordinace around.

We hired bikes to do this although we saw plenty of people walking. There is a bus shuttle which you can take also for $12.

The road there is sealed so good for riding & walking. The terrain is undulating so a good level of fitness and plenty of water as can get hot.

The site is great to walk around with plenty of stuff to see. I loved the tunnels leading to the gun emplacements.

Good views of the area they were protecting with massive turrets around the hills. We only spent a small time there as we were mindful of others that did come with us, but you could spend hours there to see everything.

Just Beautiful

Went down to Fort Nepean to visit the Craft Market and it was really good with plenty of options available. The area is very historic and has a lovely outlook to the Rip . We did the entire tour of the Fort last year and it is stunning. Pick a nice day , pack a picnic lunch , take advantage of the free shuttle bus and simply enjoy.
