Finally, got to see inside the walls.

1.5 hour guided tour was very interesting and entertaining. The fort is still an active military establishment, so security was tight. Proof of identity, and Covid vaccination was required.
Attractive buildings, including a magnificent basalt lighthouse.
I was particularly interested in the historic artillery, the magazines, the disappearing gun, the big blackpowder cannons, and the museum.
No public toilets, but arrangements can be made in an emergency.
Would be difficult in a wheelchair due to quite a few steps.
Mary, the volunteer guide was a terrific raconteur with lots of interesting stories.

Great tour. Very knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. Came upon by chance but very happy with value. Thoroughly enjoyed and learnt about our military history.

Fort Queenscliffe Tour well worth doing

The tour of the fort was a good length and very enlightening. The museum itself has fascinating stories and artifacts and I would like to have been able to spend more time there. Because we were part of a tour the time was limited. Visitors should note that this is an active military installation and you are only admitted with photo ID and you must join a tour group. Be sure to check ahead of time for opening days and hours as they are limited and get there 10 minutes early to be processed and to pay.

Closed due to COVID-19

We were looking forward to touring or looking around the fort & black lighthouse, but the times they allow this were very limited, & then we saw the sign that said it was closed, I believe this was due to COVID-19. None of this was on website or at Visitor Information Centre. Very disappointing!

Stunning views

20 people started off on a cold, windy and misty rainy day. Our tour guide was both informative and interesting, the sun eventually shone and what stunning views of the Bay and the heads.

A Hidden Gem
ene. de 2021
Established in an era when the Colony of Victoria was largely responsible for its own defence, the fort depicts the strategies that were deployed in this pre federation era, right through to the end of World War II. Tour guides Mary and Steve are passionate about the site and enthusiastically pass on their knowledge of the site and its history.
The tour lasts about 1.5 hours and is well worth the time for anyone visiting Queenscliff.

If you are even a tiny bit interested in history of australia and world wars this is go to place.
the guide, Mary, was absolute legend. 1.5 hour with her is better than any history class you will ever attend.
Recommended for solo or family fun equally.
fun fact - You also get to dress up as soldiers from world war era.
