Due to CoViD, with really nothing else to do on weekends besides hike/paddle or go out on the pontoon...Turtleback was my home on Saturdays in 2020. We have a lake house nearby in Chetek, so I'm in the area every weekend, year-round.

I couldn't have been so lucky. Played there every Saturday from mid-May through mid-October.

Turtleback has always been hailed as "The Best Course in Northern Wisconsin"...and it's so very fitting. Nothing else comes close.

Immaculately maintained, this beyond-lush course offers challenges around every corner, and there are plenty of those. Four tee-boxes to cater to every golfer. Many blind tee shots. Terrain is very important to me...(who wants to play golf on a pool table?), and Tback offers plenty of terrain. The tee boxes and greens (more on the greens later) are both excellent. You're gonna wanna find your ball in the fairway because the rough on all 18 holes is really tough to cleanly get your ball out of. I highly recommend the new fad of neon/brightly colored balls. The white ones become maddeningly invisible if you're not in the fairway!

The back nine is better than the front...so if you only can play 9, ask for the back 9.

Bunkers are immaculately combed and in a fine sand, if you find yourself unlucky.

Memorable holes include 2, 5, 7, 9, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18...(!!)

Turtleback is so named because of their challenging/undulating greens (in a turtle's back fashion), and also for the great deal of mounds that offer tricky lies outside of the fairways on just about every hole. The greens are amongst the finest I've ever rolled a Titleist on. It makes for a very scenic, quiet and serene place to play in the rolling, deeply-wooded terrain of Northwestern Wisconsin.

The property itself offers two bars, including a gorgeous "infinity room" of an upstairs bar with wide open views of both finishing nines...9, and the incredible par-5 18th. Large ballrooms offer parties and wedding receptions, in a beautiful setting. The downstairs bar is a bit of a buzzkill, as it could/should be quite livelier. A remodel of the downstairs (golfers) restrooms is in DIRE NEED.

That said, it's a gem of a property, and without question the highlight of Rice Lake, Wisconsin!

I'm now proud to call Turtleback my "Home Course" and I know you'll love it too!

**Pro Tip - for about $44 you can play Turtleback, with UNLIMITED HOLES after 3:30pm every single day spring through fall...you're welcome!

The four of us had a terrific time golfing and enjoying the course and nature. I would recommend this course to anyone We like the course so much we played it two days in a row.

In the Rice Lake area getting some Maintance work done. Had my clubs so decided to play Turtleback. Enjoyed the course, pretty much what I expected for the money, lush and a decent layout. My complaint is that the grounds crew were more friendly than the clubhouse guy. About all I got out of him was a grunt and where to go after number 6. Just wasn’t friendly, maybe having a bad morning.

First played this course on the way to Erin Hills to watch the US Open in 2017. Played it again in early May 2018 to get a jump on the golf season. The course is always in great shape and the greens are meticulously maintained. The course itself is challenging and requires players to hit golf shots. My friend and I are both golfers so enjoyed the challenges the course presented. Because of our experience at this course and others in the area (ie. Spooner), we decided to spend a few days in the Rice Lake area golfing and were not disappointed. Played 36 holes on Sept 11th and had a great day! It was hotter than we expected for this time of year, but heat is a lot better than the alternative. The course was in great shape! A special thanks to GM Kevin Carter who booked our hotel room and set up our rounds the same day I emailed him with the dates we wanted to stay & play. Can't say enough good things about this course and the area. Play Turtleback, you won't be disappointed.

Our family played 18 holes of golf at Turleback golf course last month.Course was in super condtion.Very few golfers the day we played,on a Monday A stop at the club house was fun.Great Friendly bar Tenders.Recommend this course to anyone who wants to play a great golf course.

This is great course to play for condition and scenery. They have five sets of tees so people can play the tees that fit their abilities. We wish we could play a course like this for the price when we golf in Arizona or Florida on our winter vacations.

Played this course twice and you could sense that they are trying to watch every penny. Tough roughs and long grass right off the greens. Sand is not sand in the traps but like shifted gravel. Challenging layout and probably one of the best courses in the area!!!

Turtleback is the hidden jewel for NW Wisconsin... the picture on this review does not do it justice.. so make sure to visit their page or better yet, come on out and play it... I grew up on the course and it has changed over the years... the course is immaculate and fun to play but yet very challenging to all level of golfer.. the 19th hole offers food and drink and the prostaff is very friendly....

Played this course on Saturday, July 8. What a wonderful find in northern Wisconsin! Course was in great condition and our group all commented on how much they enjoyed their round. Guys and gals both wanted to play it again, but rain Sunday sent us home early.
