We watch them make a glass plate. It looked like they were making a glass bowl, but at the end they flattened it out to make a plate.

Very convenient and nicely set out collection of glassblowing artistic pieces in this Makawao store just off the main street. I recommend a visit as the pieces are not too expensive to own one.

Any time on Maui we can't stay away from Hot Island Glass. Although we really cannot afford a lot of the pieces for sale, this does not keep us from visiting and admiring the artist at work. Viewing is free (our favorite price) and fascinating. The atmosphere is welcoming and seats at a counter offer you a place to perch while you watch and take photos or video.

Usually you can watch as they craft the glass items, but they were on vacation and doing maintenance in December. The store is open and staff can tell you all about the process. Even if you are not interested in buying anything, just looking at the work is spectacular.

Located in a nice little retail area along Baldwin Avenue (the commercial street of Makawao) Hot island Glass has very creative glass pieces. We like the Jellyfish designs that they do. Also, there is a very nice art gallery just in front of there shopfront entrance that have high quality art of various styles.

it's a wonderful place to visit since it's rare that you can actually see/watch the glass blowing. The shop has wonderful items on display in all price ranges. Don't miss this place!!

We found parking about 2 blocks away wandered in with little expectation but were blown away. The fine glass art is breathtaking (we bought 2 pieces) and we had a great time watching one of the artists making a small vase. Definitely
worth the stop.

One of the few places where you can closely view the glass blower'artist at work. The staff is friendly, will spend time with you providing information and guidance. They have several premade items for sale and do a large amount of custom work.....the jelly fish and ocean waves are beautiful, the plates are spectacular and the globes for lights are unique.
This glass art is authentic, unique and made by artisans trying to make a living making beautiful items....do NOT compare prices to much cheaper items that look similar but come from China, Home Depot, and some other island galleries.
Support this place and the excellent artists that work here.

Drove to Makawao with this specifically in mind. We had two days in Kahului during a recent cruise and I rented a car to drive upcountry largely to visit this place. It did not disappoint. My wife loved hand blown glass art and we bought a few items for her and our daughters. The place is amazing with a large retail shop in front and workshop in rear. Lots of artwork offered at a wide range of prices. Along with a few other interesting shops in the area this makes Makawao a worthwhile visit if you are upcountry Maui. The staff were very friendly and the art is stunning. There was no one at work in the back when we were there, but viewing that would only enhance a good place to visit.

Sorry, not sure. Some tours doing the Road to Hana go around the backside of Haleaka returning via "upcountry", but I doubt they actually stop in Makawao. You can check online. Also, there is at least one highly rated glass shop in Lahaina.
