No esperen grandes monumentos, como este hay varios (mas grandes o mas pequeños), pero es casi una tradicion visitar los cementerios de la ciudad

Muchas esculturas con valor históricos. Se puede buscar en internet la lista de personajes que reposan en este cementerio.

Para Estados Unidos, este cementerio es distinto, debido a que las tumbas están sobre la tierra porque en New Orleans los pantanos se pueden inundar. En otras partes esto no sucede, lo que hace que el cementerio se convierta en una atracción. Y realmente sí tiene monumentos que son impresionantes, por lo que recomiendo visitarlo.

Jamas se me ocurriria ir a visitar un cementerio en cualquier ciudad del mundo. Por el hecho de que hicimos un tour, nos llevaron al cementerio. No me lo disfrute, quiza porque en Guatemala, mi pais, tenemos varios cementerios parecidos. Admito que los panteones eran bonitos, pero el paseo me parecio morbido, a pesar de que se que no es la intencion.

Creo que para las personas que provienen de culturas donde los cementerios tienen construcciones sobre tierra no es una gran atractivo. Solo si te toca presenciar un entierro que es colorido Pero hace falta tambien ser un poco cínico

muy buena opción, monumentos sobrios, mucha historia, aristocrático y muy prolijo,una visita obligada para el turista que desea algo más.

Como estabamos cerca de Canal Street. cogimos el tranvia que estab a en obras, y te recogia un autobus por el mismo precio, 1 dolar con 25 centavos, precio justo para subir (no dan cambios) luego a mitad de camino te cambias y te lleva el tranvia hasta el final. Cuando llegamos resultó que ya estaba cerrado porque cierran las puertas a las 16 horas. Hicimos unas fotos desde afuera y luego volvimos al tranvia. Nos dijeron que si hubieramos cogido un tiquet de 3 dolares (mas o menos) teniamos para bus y tranvia todo el día.
En cualquier caso, está muy alejado del centro como a 6 km. pensabamos que ibamos al cementerio de S. Luis que esta cerca del barrio frances y nos equivocamos preguntando y nos fuimos hasta el final.

Lake Lawn no solo es una funeraria y un cementerio hermoso, sereno y bellamente mantenido, sino que el personal es de primera categoría en todos los niveles. Cuando mi padre falleció recientemente, Lake Lawn brindó sus servicios y nuestra familia no podría haber estado más feliz con el servicio, la asistencia personal, la amabilidad, la compasión y la asistencia que nos brindaron durante este momento tan difícil. Fuimos con un guía turístico y tuvimos una experiencia maravillosa aprendiendo sobre la historia y los distintos tipos de lugares de descanso. No iría solo porque no sabía quién o dónde descansaban personas conocidas. Tenga cuidado de mantenerse hidratado y preparado para el sol. La historia de este cementerio y la belleza fue increíble.

Does the cemetary ever open the doors for the Weeping Angel to be on display? If so, what time and when?
We are here through March and I'd love to get a better view of it, unless you just have to get lucky when there isnt steam on the windows....

No but about a mile away, in New Orleans City Park, there are hundreds of old, large, moss draped oaks!

We visited this cemetery today but weren't sure where to go to get the maps and CD. We parked next to the main building at the main entrance but saw there was a funeral going on inside. Surely this isn't the same place to get the maps? Is there an office somewhere?

I didn't have a map or a CD but used my iphone and had a DK Eyewitness guide book, so I sort of knew what I wanted to see. I also did a lot of aimless wandering.

I've always just roamed around without any guidance. However, I did a Google search and there's tons of info about the cemeteries of NOLA. Do a Google search for "self-guided tours of Metairie cemeneries."

If you go to the office of the funeral home on site they will give you a map and a cd to guide you around the cemetery. They take your license as a deposit on the cd and you have to go during normal business hours.

We had a car and drove there. Actually found it accidently on the way to Art Museum and city park .. there were 5 cemeteries on that road. But Metairie was the largest and best of the 5 by far. The weeping lady statue was hard to find .. it was along the edge with lots of Greece looking columns and its with in sight of the huge civil way statue on the horse. It's in the crypt and hard to see .. theres a tiny piece of broken glass on the side and luckily my camera had a tilt screen. some times the statue looks white other times blue depending on the time of day and reflections from the blue stained glass.
hope it helps. We felt safe to walk around here ... the Roche cemeteries .. felt unsafe.

You don't need to park anywhere. You drive around the cemetery and pull over at spots you are interested in getting out and looking at. This is an active, normal cemetery so you behave in the same way you would any cemetery, driving to a spot and pulling off to the side and getting back in once done or walking to other sites. It's not crowded so there is no issue parking by one grave and walking around and leaving your car.
