We took a fantastic snorkel tour all around the island and out to Cotton Cay. We've taken tours off of Provo before but the wildness and natural beauty of Salt Cay is truly special. Richard was extremely knowledgeable and went out of his way to make sure we had the best possible experience. Besides the excursion itself, Salt Cay Divers was beyond helpful over the course of our trip - the logistics of visiting the island are definitely tough, but Salt Cay Divers made it very doable. They helped us with transportation, food, and accommodation, and Richard personally met us at the airport, took us to our house, made sure we had everything we needed, and helped us coordinate our itinerary. We could not have asked for better service and will definitely have to return in season to see the whales!

We had a great whale watching trip with expert skipper Richard. He knows so much about the whales & their behaviors. My partner was especially interested in getting recordings of males "singing" & Richard knew all the best places to get good recordings.

Salt Cay Divers were committed to everyone seeing whales and having a great experience. Among the whales we saw were a mom, a baby and a juvenile. The show they gave us was spectacular. It really seemed like they were "performing" for us!

My girlfriend and I came to Sal Cay for a long weekend and did some whale watching and diving with Salt Cay Divers. Both experiences were fantastic. Being able to get that close to such a large animal is pretty mind blowing. Although it's not guaranteed you'll see the whales, Richard seems to have a special talent for finding them. On our two tank dive we saw a bunch of other cool stuff along the wall, including some reef sharks. It was really wild being able to hear the whales under water during the dive, even though you can't see them. Overall, Salt Cay is a must visit for anyone that wants to get off the grid and experience the non-touristy version of the Caribbean. The locals were very friendly and helpful, and the history and landscape of the island are very unique and beautiful, especially North Beach. It takes a little extra effort to get to the island, but you'll be rewarded for it. (Attached is a picture I took of the whales)

We had a fantastic three day weekend excursion to Salt Cay with Salt Cay Divers.
Karen and Dirk, the owners, were very accommodating as we juggled the dates of our trip to fit our schedule. They graciously answered all our questions concerning the arrangements to get from South Caicos via Grant Turk then the eight mile short hop to Salt.

We were their first guests in the newly renovated “mini” Marsh Wiggle salt rakers cottage which was well decorated and outfitted with everything you would need for your stay. Just a few steps up Donkey Lane from the dive shop.

Captain and dive master Richard is the ultimate whale spotter and very knowledgeable as well as respectful of the whales.

We went out on three different excursions with him, along with crew members Elliot and Rachel, a shout out to both of them, having several occasions to get in the water with snorkel gear, and in position to watch the whales swim mere feet under us. Very magical.

One morning, while looking for whales, Richard put a hydrophone in the water and we were fortunate enough to hear a whale singing close by. Again it was so magical.

Salt Cay is an island seemingly time has forgotten. It is quaint and charming where everyone is so friendly such that you feel part of the island community in no time. Most residents get around the island by golf cart but it’s an easy walk to most places. Other reviews have mentioned that this is not for the five star resort types, but if you want authentic island charm this is the place.

The highest compliment we can bestow is if we would return and for us the answer to that is a resounding yes.

I loved the people first and foremost. This island is the real "Caribbean" experience as it was before the influx of cruise ships and tourists changed it all. This is the Caribbean as most people have NEVER seen or experienced it.
Karen, the owner and host, is one of the kindest and most welcoming human beings you will meet. Richard, the divemaster and guru of whales and scuba, is an ABSOLUTE treasure to dive and whale watch with, and so is Elliot his assistant.

In terms of place: I have traveled to and dove in numerous far flung big name destinations on liveaboards and land resorts including Cocos, Galapagos, PNG, Raja Ampat etc. My experience in Salt Cay ranks high up with all of these places. There are only 2 other places in the world where you can have the same kind of humpback whale encounters, and 1 of them has been devastated by a huge volcanic eruption as you may know. The whale experiences I had were truly life changing.

On top of what you see - Salt Cay is truly a magical, untouched slice of the OG Caribbean. I have never seen so many pristine corals and sea fans ANYWHERE in the Caribbean as I saw here. Every dive had 1-2 shark sightings, a sign of a extremely healthy reef. And to hear whale songs in the distance while diving - simply priceless.

A few caveats - if you are used to the Cruise ship lifestyle or 5 star accomodations Salt Cay is not for you. Having luxurious accomodations ala Four Seasons and meals by gourmet chefs is the complete antithesis of what this island is about; having those would have entirely wrecked what Salt Cay so special.

That is not to say the accomodations and food were not great - my rooms were clean, beautifully furnished and spacious, with almost every amenity you could hope for. However, there are no true grocery stores on Salt Cay; most food is brought in by boat from neighboring Grand Turk. I was more than happy to prepare my own meals in the fully equipped kitchen!

Even for a relatively well read and experienced diver, I had never heard of Salt Cay before a happy accident brought me there. Karen and friends made me feel like part of the Salt Cay family. This is truly a unique and amazing place; I hesitate to write this review as I want to keep this secret selfishly all to myself. I will plan to be back every year!

We stayed at Harborside House right across the street from the Dive Shop. The house was beautifully decorated and well-stocked with cooking supplies and even beach towels and shampoo! Karen, the owner, was so nice and helpful. She arranged groceries delivered to the house before we arrived, and when we had luggage lost on the way there, and Karen called InterCaribbean for us and arranged for our luggage to be delivered the next day!

The divemasters and folks at the Dive Shop were wonderful. They arranged gear for us so we could dive while awaiting our luggage. The dive groups were small and we got lots of personal attention, setting gear up for us before the dive, etc.

The diving was good, and we saw a great variety of fish and larger stuff, from sea turtles to sharks. We did one afternoon of whale watching and were able to swim with a mother and calf! Richard, the captain, did a great job maximizing our experience, and the group of snorkelers on our boat was only 5!

The island is not large, and does not have resort amenities, but the restaurant adjacent to the dive shop was very good and has a rotating menu each night. The people are friendly and welcoming. The beaches are beautiful. The donkeys are a bonus, and birding on the island is great! We're so happy we went!

Elliott picked our family up from Grand Turk and after a beautiful boat ride we arrived on Salt Cay for an amazing, personalized tour of the island. Excellent communication with Karen from start to finish to plan a full-day adventure the day our cruise ship was in port November 2019. Our party ranged from age 8 to 75 and everyone had a wonderful time. We met donkeys, relaxed on a beach without another person in sight, snorkeled from shore, toured a home, saw flamingos on the salt flats, and had a delicious meal. Elliott was a fantastic tour guide - full of history of the island and we had a lot of laughs. I fell in love with Salt Cay and hope to return for a longer stay. Do not hesitate to book with these great people.

We had the absolute pleasure of travelling to Salt Cay recently for a long weekend stay. We booked 2 snorkel/whale watching trips with Salt Cay Divers and we could not have asked for a better experience. Richard, the captain and ultimate whale finder was awesome. It was important to us that we did whale watching with a company that understands the importance of respecting the animals first and foremost. In all of our approaches Richard put the animals well-being first. We were able to have multiple in water encounters and also watched the magnificent Humpbacks from the boat deck. He took great care to ensure our safety too, ensuring that the conditions were acceptable for our children and us and indicating when they were not.

In addition to our wonderful boating experiences, we stayed at the rental home called Harbourside House, owned by Karen and Dirck of Salt Cay Divers. Located directly across from the dive shop, we couldn’t have asked for better accommodations during our stay on Salt Cay. The rental has multiple options (1 bedroom with kitchen, 2 bedroom with kitchen or entire house with 3 bedrooms and 2 kitchens) to accommodate your specific needs. The kitchens and bathrooms were very well appointed with everything you could need for a comfortable stay. Super fresh linens, updated, cozy, cottage furniture and lots of fun reading material are just some of the details that have not been overlooked.

Karen was an exceptional host, providing us not only with a comfortable, well-appointed rental but also with a quick tour of all her favourite parts of Salt Cay and hints and tips for an enjoyable stay. We will definitely return to Salt Cay to stay here again and to do some more snorkeling, diving and whale watching with Salt Cay Divers.
