Well-maintained narrow trail. Free ample parking. Easy flat path to stairway. Many seating areas. A low branch is marked. Interesting Nature info boards along the way. 235 steps with nailed down tread mats on the stairs for traction. One step broken at bottom of one flight of stairs. Amazing views at the end. Platform to take pictures with Balancing rock. There is a bench there to rest. The climb back up is doable if take it slow, rest periodically, and give yourself ample time.

The trail is well maintained and wide enough to pass people going the opposite direction. The information boards placed along the way were informative and well done, regarding the vegetation we were seeing. There are about 100 wooden and natural stairs, with very secure and well maintained railings to hold onto near the bottom (end of) the trail. The viewing platform is sturdy and safe and again, well maintained. The view was beautiful - such a wonder of nature. The info boards at the platform were nice to have for explanation. Definitely worth a stop if you are in Tiverton. (must take a free ferry ride from the mainland to get to it.).

253 +/ stairs to walk down to the pretty crazy balancing rock with a view that takes your breath away! Take a bit of time and Enjoy your the views and the Balancing Rock- because you have to go back up those crazy 253 + stairs to get back to your car! It was worth every step. The trail is beautiful getting there as well.

Rewarding trek to see a marvel of nature. I was fortunate to go when few people were about as the path is narrow and the viewing location can get cramped. The stairs made me thankful for my daily elliptical routine but others might find the 235 steps a challenge so be forewarned.

A short (1.7 km) but scenic trail through woods and bogs, and a series of 235 wooden steps leads to a cliffside platform with amazing views of the 20 foot high balancing basalt rock, surrounding cliffs and St. Mary’s Bay. It is quite remarkable to see this volcanic rock balancing precariously on a ledge of rocks. If you have the time, also stop to read the interpretive panels along the trail that describe the area’s flora and fauna.

We visited Balancing Rock on an unusually warm mid September day and since we did encounter other groups of people, we didn’t linger on the platform as long as we would have liked. I can’t imagine coming here in peak season, as the trail isn’t wide and you would have to wait your turn to go down to the viewing platform. Keep that in mind when planning a visit to this wonderful natural phenomena.

This is truly a must see if you are ever on Long Island.
There is ample parking, but a good hike over some easily tread, to some rocky washed out areas , to over 200 plus stairs.
But after you do all that you come out to an oceanfront land right beside this 2 million plus year in the making rock. The ocean view , the rock itself, and the hike make it well worth it, cheers

This is a beautiful hike. It's a bit of work with all the stairs (certainly more tiring on the way back than there) but the view is very worth it. We went with a young child and it was very doable, we just paced ourselves. Interpretive signs along the trail provide information on plants you'll see there.

It’s a short (approximately 1.2
Km each way) from the parking lot to the water’s edge. This includes approx. 250 steps in and back. But the view of the balancing rocks and the bay is worth the cardio workout. Wear hiking boots or supportive footwear as the trail is a little rough in spots. There are display boards describing trees and plants in the area and picnic tables and port a potties in the parking area.

The Balancing Rock trail is a well marked and laid out trail to get from the road out to the coast where the Balancing Rock is. There are frequent wooden boardwalks to keep you above the swampy ground. There are lots of signs that detail the flora and fauna of the region and give you information on the area. The climb down to the viewing platform has been updated and has a great staircase with railings which felt safe in the misty weather. The hike out to the rock takes about 15-20 minutes so it is not too taxing on all manner of ages and conditions. They have done a super job making this natural landmark accessible to the public.

The path in is an easy hike in and out. Yes there are MANY steps down...and an equal number up....but definitely worth it to get your cardio workout. Was something to behold at the bottom
