My sister and I spent a week camping in the Sugamuxi Province and had an amazing time! While surfing the internet for places to explore that were off the beaten path, we came across Visit Sugamuxi's website. It didn't take long for us to make the decision that this is where we are going to enjoy our spring break. We camped next to the beautiful Lago de Tota, which is located in the Sugamuxi Province. We explored Tota, Sogamoso, Aquitania, and Cuítiva! We hiked up to the Páramo which was fascinating! It was an unforgettable time that I absolutely recommend!! The people who live in the area are some of the most kind people I have ever met. If you are looking for somewhere to enjoy nature and stunning landscapes, this place is for you! The knowledgable people at Visit Sugamuxi were incredibly helpful providing us with suggestions on where to go and what to do. I can't stress it enough, the Sugamuxi Province is a can't miss destination if you are traveling in Colombia, and Visit Sugamuxi will make certain that you enjoy your stay! Thank you to Visit Sugamuxi for treating us to such an unforgettable time!

I stayed in Boyaca for a month, and kind of wish I'd never left. There are sweet little towns to visit all around, and tons of beautiful hikes and swimming opportunities in the surrounding areas. All the people I met were incredibly kind, and gladly shared and advised on their incredible region. This department is home to the paramo ecosystems, which are rare highland wetlands. Visiting the paramo was one of my favorite Colombian trips, and i would highly recommend it. Don't miss this beautiful, special place.

I spent a beautiful 2 weeks exploring the Sugamuxi region of Colombia! The 13 surrounding areas are easy to navigate and each are special in their own way. There are activities that cater to every type of traveler. If you're looking to experience the REAL Colombia, Sugamuxi is for you. Of the many adventures that I went on, my favorite was hiking los paramos. With the help of a very intelligent local guide, I spent the day trekking one of the most unique ecosystems in the world! I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed the region and hope to make it back again soon!

Dear Martina, thanks so much for your kind review about our region, it is always great to realize the importance of what we have from the traveller's perspective, it also helps us as locals to understand the value of keeping it genuine, but also to keep on searching for ways to protect it and improve it, which is part of our purpose from the VisitSugamuxi website guide and the NGO work we provide in our environment. And you should definitely make it back again and soon!, you'll be always welcome - Cheers, F

I spend three months of my life in this area, and I feel in love with it. I loved every minute of it. The beauty of the villages, the quirkness in the details around me, the impressive views from the high Andean mountains, the mysticism of the legends and the culture in Sugamuxi deeply touched my heart.

The true magic behind it is that once you experience it, it never goes away. You take it with you wherever you go, and the more you allow it to touch your soul, the more you take with you beyond the duration of the journey.

Visiting Sugamuxi is a gift for life, for your life and for those you encounter on your path.

Sogamoso has much to offer for tourists looking for an escape. The surrounding 13 towns that consist within the province of Sugamuxi is a region rich in historical value. According to early cosmogony, Sogamoso is the valley where the indigenous people of Colombia believed the Sun was born.

Visit Sugamuxi gave me direct exposure to raw cultural experiences and perspectives. It is a wonderful NGO run by passionate staff and volunteers who care deeply about Lake Tota and surrounding pueblitos. This organization is a must-visit to truly appreciate the Sugamuxi region. As my travels progressed, I recollected my time in Sogamoso where my journey began. It is the real Colombian experience.

Dear Casey, thanks for your kind review about our region/province Sugamuxi, also about our NGO and activity behind this guide. And as you know, to learn and explore about those 13 towns and what the whole territory has to offer, you can search our website at any time, where we are constantly updating and improving our information - with a plus in your case, I am sure you will recognize some of the wonderful photographs exhibited ;) Cheers, F

Where to start? For me, being a traveler looking for something unique, I could not have been more lucky to have decided to go to Sogamoso. The area doesn't strike you with extreme colours or dramatic scenery, no, it is much more a real experience that once you get to know the area, the mountains, the local people and its rich history you begin to understand why the indigenous called it 'The city of the sun'.

Dear Dawood, thanks for your kind review and comments about our region Sugamuxi, and you are right it was so-called the city and valley of the sun for clear reasons, but also for the importance that the solar star had for our Muiscas in their cosmogony. In fact, our region's name Sugamuxi (last Muisca leader's name back in the Spaniards time) is clearly connected to Suamox (=Sogamoso), the territory of the sun. Instead of travelling back to Sweden with little sun there then you should consider staying around here for a while longer ;) Cheers, F
