Beautiful park! Good size sites. Beaches were really nice. Beach one was rocky going in so water shoes recommended. Lots of large boulders underwater for the kids to climb and jump off. All the staff we encountered were super friendly and helpful.

A Gem just north east of Barrie on the edge of Muskoka.

Great camping experience from the check in at the 'ranger station' (with campground store there for extra supplies if needed) to the campsite which was always clean and ready to use with a fire [pit]; usually two picnic tables and parking for two typically.

Water always nearby (delicious spring water, millions of years old); clean showers and even laundry facilities, children's park and original natural Tall Trees to shade you in to the forest.

Very weak Cell service signal (one bar in Hawk campground at best but thats' okay).

PRO staff

Beautiful beach and also there's Kettle's Lake scenic area.

So nice
truly a GEM

Awenda is one of the best provincial parks for private campsites (see my photos). Our campsite, Wolf campground site 259, was a large campsite with lots of privacy, just across from a water supply spout, and very close to the comfort station (bathrooms and showers), as well as playground.

This park also has beautiful beaches on Georgian Bay and great hiking trails. It is close to great attractions like the Wye Marsh and Sainte Marie Among the Hurons.

It is also closely located to both towns of Penetanguishene (locally referred to as Penetang) and Midland. Both are beautiful, quaint, and have restaurants, stores, and picturesque waterfronts with parks.

Came here for a weekend for camping.
Camp sites (#95) are very good and well maintained. Had one next to the comfort station that made life easy - and the facilities were maintained very well.

We took multiple trails through the weekend and relaxed at the beaches - had a fun experience and would happily do it again.

Trails - need bugspray for all trails
Bluff trail - 11km and 2 hrs (+30mins detour) - trail nice and wide - good trail to find twigs - pics of fallen/dead trees.
Took a detour midway for 30 mins to Wendat trail to go to lookout - was ok - good for boaters

Robitaille Homestead trail - 3km and 1 hr - trail is nice, gets humid - farm ruins on trail and dunes at the end are very good

Beach Trail - 1km and 15mins - provides access to all the beaches - Beach 1 is crowded, 2 is ok, 3 is smaller but was crowded, 4 was our favourite - more relaxed spots and less crowded. Beaches are nice and well maintained and water is beautiful.

Beaver pont trail - 1km and 15min - it is a cute walk in the woods and does give a few good pics.

Nipissing trail - 1km and 15 mins - the lookout has no scenic view, but can take photo of steps as it is very green in the area

Wendat trail - 5km and 1.5 hrs - is a walk around kettle lake. one side is wide and a nice walk, other side is a bit narrow and becomes humid. Sat at brabant point - which is a nice spot to just sit and relax.

Wendat trail and beaches were probably the best things to do.
Worth going as long as your looking to just relax and maybe boat/wade in the water.

Beautiful place for a fall hike. The trails are well marked and all start from a central parking lot because the camping areas are closed for the fall. The are maps, washrooms, picnic shelters and warm up buildings. The trails are beautiful and there were still lots of leaves on the trees for so late in the season. There is a nice long dog beach for those coming with their puppers. We went mid week and it was not crowded at all. We did see people riding their bikes, canoeing on kettles lake and just enjoying the day. We can’t wait to come back in the winter for snowshoeing or cross country skiing.

This was our first visit to Awenda. The walking trails were easy to get to from the parking areas, and there was not a single mosquito on them in July, which was surprising.

The scenery was beutiful, and we weren't disppointed with the birding. We saw Tanagers, Grosbeaks, White and Red-breasted Nuthatches, Broadwinged Hawk, Pewees, etc..

The trails were very steep in spots, with tree roots and rocks to make things a bit more tricky. There was a discrepancy between the trail map and the signs for the walking distance. Even on the same map the Kettle Lake trail said 4 kms, AND 5 kms, in different spots.! Also, they really could use more signage through the park and around the trails. We couldn't get to the beach trails, because there was a Do Not Enter sign that suddenly popped up after we arrived, and according to the map it was the only way to get to those trails. We ended up leaving and decided it wasn't worth coming back.the next day.

Sandy beaches w/ plenty of parking for day use. Awesome hiking/running trails. Very educational for those who like to take the time & read the info signs.

Nice campground with huge sites nicely spaced apart, but not very thick forest in between. The mosquitoes were worse than we were expecting in mid-August! Definitely need to bring repellent . Lots of driving required - it was about a 10 minute drive to get to the beach and also to Kettle’s lake. We canoed on Kettle’s lake which was nice and also did the hike around it - nice forest, nothing special. The absolute best part of this park is 4th beach. It’s a nice 20 minute walk through the forest to get there, and it is spectacular. We loved how it was much less crowded than the other beaches and it’s easy to find a private little slice. The sand was beautiful and soft, the water crystal clear - just magical. Definitely worth the walk and worth the visit to this park just to experience it!
