My family visited this museum while on a mini-vacation to the area. (We were there during Covid-19 so our experience and review will reflect that). We made reservations online as it was recommended and when we arrived we were happily received by a lovely women. Payment was by donation at this time. We were able to pay by credit card but I wish we had had cash on us so they wouldn’t have to incur the fees. The museum had signs on the floor to guide us through.

The museum is a little on the smaller side but that is because it is inside original historical buildings. And so very cute. We learned a lot of history about the area and we loved seeing the old tools and clothes of the past. My son particularly liked seeing the penny farthing bicycle and the general store. We almost missed seeing the mini model of a church but make sure you don’t! It’s upstairs and has a switch on the wall to turn on the lights. We all liked seeing that.

The one thing we missed was more information on the Indigenous in the area. I know there are other historical places that have lots of this information (they were actually closed during our stay) but I would have liked to see more at this museum.

We had a time limit of 30 minutes and it took approximately that much time to see it all. It wasn’t too busy so I don’t imagine they would have kicked us out anyway. There is a small gift store with books, toys, and other souvenirs. The genealogy area was closed when we were there.

If you are wanting to learn more about this small town and it's history, then the Centennial Museum is the place to go. There is a genealogy room with so many books and a person (Hubert Charlebois) who will help you find anything you are looking for. He has many, many names in his computer that will help get you started on a family tree.

Gives a good look into the early days of Penetang and what made the town tick. Lots of interest for train and ship enthusiasts.

Visited this museum as part of the Heart of Georgian Bay tourism tour. An original 1875 general store and offices Karl Beck's lumbering business, this building is well preserved. They have special events and programming throughout the year and have an excellent genealogical research room. The museum grounds are well maintained with lots of space for active children.

This museum is located in the general store once owned and operated by lumber baron, Karl Maximilian (Charles) Beck. Lots of family artifacts, even an early automobile. You get a real feel for a company-operated store of the lumbering era.

Best in the area. It's small but so interesting. The people involved are happy to share anything and everything relating to the history and their town.

Canada Day activities at the museum help kill time without succumbing to the insane numbers of people and incredibly long lineups at other events but the activities are getting to be very repetitive and expected. Need new things but the music entertainment provided by local musicians is good. BBQ for reasonable cash and generally good service given by volunteers.

A very well organized museum of the local history and culture. The grounds are lovely and they have interesting outdoor exhibits including an old firehouse from the town. Apparently they offer programs for school children. The "General Store" section is most interesting. The people who work there are friendly and knowledgeable.
