This National Park is such a wonderful place to hang out and has so many positives>>>
_ doesnt have the crowds that other NPs do
_ close to swan valley
_ river for swiiming
_ great picnic areas with bbq, bins, picnic tables and toilets
_ great walking trails that are all well sign posted
_plenty of wildlife to be seen on the trails, kangaroos, echidnas, goats, birds and lizards
_ get an annual NP pass then enter as often as you like.
The only negative for me is the open hours are not great in summer, ie. 8-5pm

I haven't been there for about 50 years, I enjoyed my visit then. The area has free barbecues and is surrounded by trees and from memory, there is a creek nearby.

This national park has two car parks both on Walyunga Rd. The first is located near the Walyunga Pool, large and equipped with BBQ, picnic tables and toilets, ideal for those who go to the park to spend a relaxing pleasant day along the river. Walyunga road ends about a kilometer later at Trailhead Car Park near Boongarup Pool. This small car park equipped with toilets is ideal for those who want to walk the 4 trails that start from here. The most interesting trail is the flat and very easy Syd's Rapids which is along the bank of the Swan River. In fact, it offers the opportunity to see the rapids in a relaxing way up to the confluence of the Avon River with the Wooroloo Brook where the Swan River begins. In this path, although very popular, we were also able to observe a good number of water birds and bush birds. Among the latter we took photos of grey fantail (Rhipidura albiscapa), red-capped robin (Petroica goodenovii), tree martin (Petrochelidon nigricans) and weebill (Smicrornis brevirostris). This stretch is also common to two other trails including the 11 km long Echidna loop. At the beginning we thought we would follow this trail which is a rough fire road that begins with a rapid tiring ascent away from the Avon River. After climbing a hundred meters and covering about a kilometer in an environment much less rich in attraction and fauna than the route along the river, we went back. We walked Syd's Rapids again and continued along the Swan River following the equally easy and busy 1km River Trail. Arriving at Walyunga Pool we decided to take the Kangaroo Trail about 4 km long and we reached it by crossing the road. This easy trail, walked by a few people, is also a fire road and offers an excellent opportunity to see many blooming wild flowers including beautiful wild orchids like cowslip orchid (Caladenia flava) and red fire orchid (Pyrorchis nigricans). Undoubtedly a beautiful day following easy but very interesting and pleasant trails.

This bushwalking season, our group had been hiking in different trails within an hour's drive from Perth every week.
Buying an annual park pass was the only option for us, instead of a day pass, especially since we were both RAC members and held a Concession Card. We parked our cars in the Boongarup Pool Car Park.
We chose the longest hiking trail, the 11-km Echidna Trail, a Grade 3 Difficulty walk, best taken in anti clockwise direction. The trail starts close to where the Wooroloo and Avon rivers meet to become the Swan. It's very picturesque in the first 30 minutes, and involved a tiring ascend, but the rest of the 3.5 hours taken to walk the 11-km Echidna Trail, was on a broad 4WD track, and stony in most parts. Highlights were the blooming wild flowers including the beautiful fringe lily, trigger plants and some myrtle species.
Definitely recommended!

This lovely national park is great for walks and picnics in bush setting next to the Swan River. Plenty of wildflowers in spring. Have been coming here for many decades, and still find it delightful. Today there were more than a dozen kayakers adding colour to the rapids.

This is our closest National Park. We visit to enjoy the river having a BBQ breakfast. A good number of clean working BBQs are available at the first car park, with views over the river.
The park has two car parks, with a number of walks of different lengths, the shortest being from the cars parks to the rapids along the banks of the river. It's possible to walk with a pushchair and let the kids run ahead.
It's a quiet park compared to others in the area. Toilet facilities available.
It does cost $13 to entry (standard national park fee), however we use the annual national parks pass, with a 50% saving if you are a RAC member.

We ended up here by chance when we were out for a Sunday drive. I spotted the sign post and remembered this was a favourite picnic spot for my family when I was a child. I hadn't visited for approx 35 years but I remembered that I loved it as a child. I'm so glad we went in and we'll be returning for sure; it's such a beautiful spot on the river with nice walking trails. Definitely recommend a visit here.

Went for a bush walk here - there's a variety of trails and the scenery is beautiful. Great place to spend a whole day hiking, or an hour admiring the scenery on one of the shorter routes.
