We took the funicular up last week.

If it is just the gondola that is under maintenance, you should be good to take the stairs. It took me 50 minutes to hike up the mountain. I consider myself in good health and I did not take many breaks on the way up. It was a great workout and the view was worth every bit of the sweat. Some places to eat and buy souvenirs once you get up there. Have fun!
