Last year in May I visited Jim Corbett National Park with a keen desire to spot a tiger in his den moving free. I heard the roaring coming from the jungle beside a rivulet but was not possibly lucky enough to have a glimpse, saw the pug marks & scratching over the bark of a road side tree. I consoled myself what I achieved. My wife was disheartened. I came back with a latent desire to fulfill the same if chances come. This year, again it arose in my mind. I started searching in Google & had gone through an edition of Outlook traveler on top 10 tiger parks in India. I selected Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur District of Maharastra. It appeared to me that % of tiger spotting in Tadoba is comparatively better than others provided a little luck. Yes, this time luck smiled on us & I felt immense joy that we spotted 15 tigers in 4 safari, two in core area ( one in the morning & other in the afternoon) & 2 in buffer area ( same slot ). But how did it happen ? Now I will thank a person Mr. Mukesh Shivankar. I stayed in his home stay.He did every thing. Mr. Mukesh Shivankar, a guide cum naturalist, staying at Chandrapur & he is running a business at Sitarampet in Tadoba Forest in buffer area. The name of home stay at Tadoba is “ TIGERHOMESTAYRESORT” at Sitarampet, Tadoba. Mobile No- 8805102661 / 9403333454. Mail id- mukeshshiwankar @gmail.com He did everything to complete the safari. According to him 3 or 4 safaris will do the purpose fruitful. In reality we viewed 15 tigers, most of them from very close by. Now I will narrate how the things took its shape. As safari booking is 100% online system, I tried myself from my computer but I could not manage. It is so difficult that chances of booking were proved remote on my dates. If the booking is not confirmed how the journey tickets would be booked. I felt a little disappointed. However, I got the mobile number of Mukesh. I contacted him & discussed a lot what I did want this time. I was assured that he could do every thing & advised me to send the Aadhaar card in WhatsApp. I sent immediately & remitted Rs.20, 000/ in his SBI a/c. What he did- a) He collected permit for 4 safaris, 2 in Moharli Zone, in Core Area, one in the morning & another in the afternoon. b) He collected permit for afternoon safari in Agarzari Zone and one morning safari in Devada Zone. c) He would receive us from Chandrapur Station & drop us. d) He would drive us for the safari in Devada & Agarzari Zone, 15km from the home stay. e) He would charge Rs.3000/ per night inclusive of food & lodging in a D/B room with AC, f) Timings- 5.30am to 9.30am for morning safari & 3.00pm to 7.00 pm in summer. 6.30am to 10.30 am for morning safari & 2.00pm to 6.00 pm in Nov to Feb. It was in the month of June11, We reached Chandrapur Station at 7.00am from Nagpur. Mr Mukesh received us .It is 45 km from Chandrapur to Sitarampet in Tadoba . After driving a few km, the car stopped at Padmapur , the entry gate to Tadoba. Residents of the villages inside, check post, tourists staying in the resort, home stays having reservation for night staying & rest houses are allowed to enter through this gate. After driving a few km Mr. Mukesh turned left at a square, the road straight goes ahead to Moharli gate of core area of Moharli Zone, the most popular entry point. A road passes in front of the resort. The car entered through the gate, & was parked at the parking place. We walked along a gravel road for 50 meter, the kitchen at the left & the dinning hall at the right & we reached at a two room house . It was 8.30 am. We were allotted a D/B room with attached bath with AC & a fan as the temperature touched mercury at 44 degree Celsius. The room is new, clean, with a TV (not functioned) , toilet was clean ,very small. The office was facing the lake. A road passes in front of the resort. One can go to Nagpur via Chimur along this road. The home stay is situated at the buffer area of Tadoba . A buffer area is the vast area of the forest where people live with the animals. A core area is one where no human being is allowed to stay. There is also a suite of high price, a dormitory for group tourists. A garden with a carpet of soft grass and chairs to sit on for breakfast, passing time in the evening. There is also arrangement for children with 2 swings; The view of the lake is very beautiful. You can see the Chandrapur Thermal Power station from here. You can enjoy the boating in the lake from here. There are small houses also here with the deep forest next. In the morning suddenly we came across a Nilgai crossing the road very fast. We were served breakfast according to our choice & tea. But we preferred cold lemon water as the weather was very hot. We took our lunch at 12.30pm & took rest & advised to be ready by 2.30pm as the afternoon safari would start at 3.00pm in Agarzari Zone. We spotted 3 tigers there. Next morning of 12th June, we visited the core area of Moharli Zone in the morning at 5.30am , the Jeep came to the home stay to receive us as the distance is within a radius of 6km. Mr Mukesh would accompany us as in a jeep 6 persons excluding the driver & the guide, could visit. I insisted his presence in all the safaris, as we are two only. This time we had a good luck that we spotted 6 tigers. In the afternoon, again in Core Area of Moharli Zone, accompanied by Mr. Mukesh, came across 2 tigers. Next morning in Devada Zone Mr. Mukesh drove us (13km distance) to the gate & was with us & spotted 4 tigers. After lunch he drove us in his car to drop at Chandrapur Station as we were to avail our train for Nagpur, 3 hours journey. The staff at this resort is courteous and prompt at providing any assistance. They readily answer any queries or questions that you may have. He bade us good bye. We got a warm hospitality there from every staff.
