We had traveled through the previous night, and hadn't slept for more than 36 hours by the time we arrived at the Ocean View/Wheelhouse Inn. No one was there, working the reception desk, to check us in when we arrived around 7pm. We made several phone calls to the business phone number, but there was no answer. Eventually, a young man passing by the hotel went off to find the owner. Twenty minutes later, a lady passing by saw us sitting on the front steps, and phoned her daughter, who was the owner/caretaker. She told us that Meena would be there right away. Yet another half hour passed before the young man returned with a key. He used it to let us into a disappointing tiny guest room. The TV didn’t work. There was no cold water from the faucet in the bathroom sink, and it was rather unpleasant to brush our teeth with very hot water. There were also long dark hairs in the sink, and neither of us has long dark hair! The shower drain was sluggish, leaving us standing in disgusting backed-up water. There was no mattress pad on the small double-sized bed, and the fitted sheet was worn paper-thin. It seemed like there was nothing at all between my body and the mattress that hundreds, maybe thousands, of other people (and their body fluids) had slept on. Ugh! There was no box spring either. Instead of a closet, there was a seriously un-level wooden rod in one corner of the tiny room. No hangers. The air-conditioner was not very effective. No toiletries were provided, except an unlabelled orange liquid in a dispenser in the shower. At night, the noise was unbelievable --- motorcycles racing by, music blasting, cars revving engines between speed bumps, roosters crowing, dogs barking, loud guests, etc. I got almost no sleep at all in this dirty little hotel during the 2 nights we were there! On the positive side, it is relatively cheap, and you can walk to anything in Spanish Town from its location, even the ferry dock and The Baths. Still, we will not choose to stay here again. Live and learn.…
If you're on a budget and can put up with a bug here or there, this is your best bet for an inexpensive room on Virgin Gorda. If you're looking for service and amenities, look elsewhere. Pros: - Location (right in the middle of town; close to the ferry deck; directly across the street from a main shopping strip, banks, about 25 minute walk to the Baths, taxi stand across the street) - Price (this is probably the cheapest place to get a room in Virgin Gorda) - Staff is very friendly Cons: - Had a cockroach visitor one night - Bare-bones room (2 beds took up almost all of the space in the room)
