Die Lage war zunächst einmal ausschlaggebend um von der Fähre in Picton möglichst weit in Richtung Golden Bay zu kommen. Etwas abseits vom Highway 60 glegen ist dieses ruhige Paradies. Eine eigene Hütte auf dem riesigen Grundstück etwas erhöht gelegen und absolute Stille. Nur eines der Goats war ab und zu mal zu hören, was mir persönlich aber sehr gut gefallen hat um die Landstimmung perfekt zu machen. Frische Eier der eigenen Hühner habe ich gleich bekommen. Die Hütte ist perfekt für 2 Personen mit Küchenzeile und Bad. Rundumblick aus allen Fenstern in den tollen Garten. Die Gastgeber sind sehr nett. Zahlung mit Kreditkarte ist leider nicht möglich. Bar, Überweisung oder PayPal werden akzeptiert.

This cottage in Ruby Bay is perfect if you need a break from the city. Set in amazing gardens with the waterwheel, stream and plenty of spots to enjoy a glass of wine and a platter. It's fully self contained and the owners left us free range eggs from their chocks. They also offer goats milk from their goats. The area has great cafes and restaurants if you want to drive the short drive to Mapau. We loved staying here and think the value is excellent. Thanks Ali and Pete for sharing your piece of paradise with us.

We really enjoyed staying in Ali’s cottage. It was exactly like the pictures-beautiful, serene, and inviting. We didn’t mind that it wasn’t centrally located (near Nelson) because it was so relaxing to come home to and the end of the day. The place was very well kept and worked perfectly for two people. Working with Ali was a pleasant experience. She made the booking process easy and was very accommodating. The one downside to this cottage was the bugs (mostly mosquitos). We learned the hard way that keeping your windows open at night meant lots of bug bites! This isn’t specific to the cottage (since there aren’t any window screens in NZ), but I think the more rural area invited more bugs than the more populated places. All in all, we would highly recommend this place!

Very comfortable and with a wonderfully peaceful feeling, Waterwheel Cottage proved the perfect getaway. Beautiful gardens, original artworks and nice touches like a homemade loaf of zucchini bread and bowel of fruit made it special.
