I have so many accolades to give to Shorlette and this property that I don't know where to start. When choosing a VRBO, I always assume that the pictures will be better than reality but it was the opposite. The pictures don't do it justice. It's absolutely beautiful. The back porch of the cottage overlooks Rock Sound and the gorgeous water is less than 50' away. The covered dock on the property is perfect for morning coffee, sunset views, swimming, fishing, or adventuring with a tandem kayak that comes with the rental. The property is minutes away from town (even by bicycle) and walking distance from Boiling Hole and Cathedral Caves but the cottage itself is down a long driveway, nestled behind vegetation and trees, such that it is secluded and private, not sitting right on the main road where you would be bothered by traffic noise. The cottage is stocked with everything you need (pots, pans, dishes, 2-burner stove, oven/air fryer/microwave combo, towels, soaps, paper towels, toilet paper, bug spray, EVERYTHING) but should you find that you are missing anything, the extra bonus for this rental is that Shorlette lives in the cottage just next door and she is the absolute best. I swear she checked on us every single day - but not in an intrusive way - she'd just catch us in the yard as we were coming or going and would say hello and ask if we needed anything. Along with arranging transport to and from the airport and making sure we knew where to go to get our COVID tests done, she provided all the info and tips on experiencing the local culture. If you want the best conch salad on the island, she's got the phone number for Geno at the road-side stand (truly delicious, made fresh in front of you) - and even offered to make arrangements to have it brought to us at the cottage. If you need a bottle of rum, she shows you the closest liquor store as well as the one with the best prices - your choice. I can't promise that this next part will be the case with every rental, but as an example of how wonderful a hostess she is, one day she brought over some "Sky Juice" (gin and fresh coconut water) for us to try and another day she offered us a ripe coconut from their tree and then brought over a specific gadget to get into it.
I could say so much more. The cottage was immaculately clean, the people of South Eleuthera are ultra-friendly, the island is beautiful, food is delicious. Five stars across the board. Hooray for Shorlette!
