As a family of 5 adults, we spent a week at Puffers Place as it's called and all left with mixed feelings about it. I had a very hard time getting a hold of the owners with questions prior to the stay. The first they wrote me back a couple days later. But the next one about check in time was never responded to. I found their phone number by searching for their personal website online and got a hold of them that way to find out check in was 3:00. We were happy with the cleanliness of the house and fresh flowers upon arrival. We also enjoyed the dock, lake, kayak, canoe and campfire one night. A couple issues were that the site says they have 19 acres of maintained trails which is why we wanted to stay there. The trails were overgrown and hadn't been maintained in a long time. Also, we had a heat wave while there. The rolling A/C units in the bedrooms helped to sleep but couldn't keep up to cool the common areas and we found it uncomfortably warm. The owners live a stone's throw away from the house but we rarely saw them. When it came to check out after a week, our good experience ended. The rule book placed out for renters says 11:00. We also had printed the contract from their website and it said 11:00. At 9:30, one of the owners drove up and told us we were a half an hour past check out and that we needed to go! Planning for 11, there we still family members showering at that point. He said he would start to charge us $50 per hour that we were late in order to pay the cleaners waiting. We were shocked by this and texted over to the female owner pictures of the contract and their own book on the table with the 11:00 time. Then she showed up knocking 20 minutes later also telling us we needed to leave faster because she had cleaners waiting. She stated that they changed the check out to 9am during Covid but apparently only changed it on there listing page which no one would think to refer to if they had a contract like we did or were looking at their own greeting book! She just kept telling us how the cleaners have been waiting now for an hour and they're going to have to pay them more etc, etc. They should have been apologizing at that point for the inorganization of their rental listing but just seemed more concerned about their cost. We all left in a rush at 10:30 flustered and stressed by these confrontations. I thought the house was nice enough but would never rent here or recommended to a friend.
