Great, relaxing place to stay, made to feel very welcome. The House was beautiful, would recommend, plenty of things for the children to do on site

Beautiful, comfortable lovingly converted watermill Perfect for a very relaxing getaway. We had the place to ourselves which was a real bonus, the only sound was that of the birds. The pool and the garden area was beautifully kept with tables, chairs and sun lounges spread throughout. Its a short stroll in to the village of Gor with its one tapas bar that serve lovely evening meals for very little Euros, there's also a small shop and bakery. Easy drive to the stunning lake Negratin with is lovely clear warm water. Many thanks to Marc and Sam for a lovely stay and for all the helpful info.

Recently had a 10 night break with my wife and two children in this beautiful, rural holiday let. The property is located on the edge of the small, country village of Gor which has all the necessary amenities (shop, pharmacist etc). There is currently only one bar / restaurant open (usually there are three), but the open one is spacious (inside and out), friendly and serves good tapas. The location is well-placed, 20 mins from the large-ish towns of Baza and Guadix and only an hour or so from Granada. The key appeal of the location is the surrounding countryside, great for sight-seeing and walking within the spectacular landscape. Locally there are drives and walks through the hills and slightly further afield is the beautiful lake Negratin (a reservoir) and higher hills with woods and waterfalls etc. The accommodation itself is excellent (we stayed in the 2-bed property which has a private garden), well maintained and well fitted out. The communal gardens, pool and play area are really nice with plenty of space if you want privacy or otherwise. The hosts (Sam and Marc) couldn't be more helpful and friendly and are a veritable mine of information on where to go and what to do in the area (they even accompanied us on a couple of excursions to ensure we saw some real highlights!). I'd certainly recommend this location, we had a great holiday and would go back – we also had the good fortune to visit during Gor’s Fiesta which was a real experience.

Nous avons tout adoré : la superbe maison fraîche et authentique avec le patio, la piscine et l'espace extérieur avec table de ping-pong, trampoline, des tables de pique nique. La vue est splendide. L'endroit est juste.. merveilleux, dépaysant, apaisant. C'est la nature authentique. Nous avons fait des rencontres magnifiques (des gens du village, les commerçants). Nous conseillons le bar où nous prenions notre café le matin et l'apéritif tapas en fin d'après-midi. Marc et Samantha (ainsi que leurs fils) sont vraiment adorables. Ils se mettent en quatre pour que le séjour nous soit agréable. Ils nous conseillent sur les visites. C'est sûr. Nous y retournerons ! We loved all.. the cool house, the swimming pool and the outside location. The village is so lovely. We will go back ASAP...

Great stay at La Amapola. Sam was a wonderful host with loads of info and advice about the area. Loved the swimming pool area, great views. Gor is a small very Spainish village, but with a nice tapas bar and friendly locals. Loved the peace and quite of the area, great relaxing holiday.

This space was exactly as advertised, a rustic apartment in a small spanish village. Marc was great to deal with before arrival and very helpful with settling in and navigating our way around the area. Gor is a Spanish village - where they are not so saturated in visitors that you can wander into the local market with your phrase book in hand and practice your Spanish with the people in the store. In contrast to places like Madrid they seem to like it when you make an effort to speak the language. Given that this was fall in the mountains and the village is located in a river gorge the sun reaches the apartment in the late morning and leaves in early afternoon. Another pair of warm pants and a 2nd pair of socks would not have gone amiss. But when the sun is out - even in October its warm enough for long shorts. Gor is the jumping off point to the Sierra de Baza - a must see in this part of Spain, stunning scenery, paleolithic sites and modern hot springs spas about 45 minutes to the north. A great space, a great host and an incredible area to explore.

Just had a week in La Amapola with my husband and 3 grown up children. We had a wonderful time and particularly enjoyed the peaceful setting. The table tennis kept the family happy whilst I enjoyed the sunbathing with the odd dip in the small pool. The tapas bar in the village was fab and good value and we had a great trip to the Alhambra and the nearby Lake Negratin which was spectacular. Recommended for great scenery, lovely climate (comfortable at night) and friendly owner and locals.

We visited a year ago and stayed in the sister apartment La Mariposa. The La Amapola is as comfortable, cosy and as well finished as the La Mariposa apartment so if one isn't available don't hesitate to see if you can book the other one. Sam and Marc the owners were as helpful as ever and make you very welcoming. Highly recommended

but not fair to keep quiet about. There is something for everyone. That was a very good location for exploring Sierra Nevada for our family. We came there to see real Spain (far from all-inclusive resorts), overwhelming mountains and beautiful Negratin Lake - warm water in September - and we weren't disappointed. Fora family of 4 it was comfortable and good size accommodation. Didn't have a chance to meet owners in person, but big thank you to their friends Lydia and Mark, who looked after us superbly. Place makes you feel so welcome and relaxed that even me as a 'dog person' befriended their cats. We are fans of old westerns and Indiana Jones movies so had a chance to see original settings. Very good Mora pub in the village, good (free) tapas, just need to know how to order a beer in Spanish. We will not hesitate to visit again.
