Conveniently located 1000 feet above the village of Uvita, where the mountains go right down to the coast, this private 2000 square foot villa is nestled in a secluded jungle setting. There are ocean views across the entire west side of the villa: kitchen, dining area, living room and veranda. One of the two bedrooms is set behind the veranda and can open up on it, allowing for an ocean view from bed. You don't have to bring much clothing because there is a designated laundry room with washer and dryer and we provide the detergent. Due to the rapid rise in elevation, a 4x4 SUV is needed. Or for that rainy afternoon watch one of 100 DVD's on the flat-screen TV or one of the CD's from our collection. Our property manager, Rolando Fallas, will meet you on your arrival, orient you to the area, and escort you up to the house. He will be available to you throughout your stay for questions and issues that may arise. Hike right from the front door 10 minutes down to a beautiful waterfall swimming pool. Or make the 10 minute down to the village. Uvita is a multi-cultural community which serves as the shopping hub for the area. There are supermarkets, a tourist information center, internet cafes, boutiques and shops. There is a farmers' market every Saturday morning where local artisans sell their wares. Uvita connects to Bahia, the entrance to Marino Ballena National Park which has the Whale's Tail, a nearly 700 meter long and 250 meter wide sandbank, the third largest in the world. The Whale's Tail divides the endless coastline of beaches into two distinct kinds. On one side, enjoy vigorous surf for both swimming and surfing. And on the other side, enjoy the calm water ideal for children and snorkeling. Tour operators here (We recommend Uvita Information Center) will bring you snorkeling right off the coast at Ballena Isla or to the famous Cano Island for scuba or snorkeling. They also offer tours to Corcovado national Park just across the bay for a day of hiking in one of the few primal forests left in the world. Or choose a day of deep sea fishing or tour Uvita's 1000 acre wildlife preserve. Take a zip line tour and an ATV tour. Go 5 miles down the Costanero to kayak on the Terraba River in the largest mangrove in Costa Rica. We also have several wonderful waterfalls which you can walk to or rent a a horse and ride there. With ocean breezes all day and cool mountain air at night, there is no need for air conditioning (although one bedroom has an in-wall unit). The two large bedrooms have queen size beds (one bedroom has an additional single bed), private baths, and are separated by a spacious living room. All closets are dehumidified. Fully equipped kitchen and vaulted ceilings with palm frond ceiling fans give this home both comfort and beauty. Incredible wildlife and spectacular sunsets make Casa Toucan unforgettable. Wake up to the calls of howler monkeys and have sunset cocktails with resident toucans by your private 40 foot swimming pool. Más

Amazing home. My family of 3 stayed during the rainy season for 3 weeks in July. Casa Toucan was everything we were hoping for. Rolando the property manager was very nice and helpful. The town of Uvita is very friendly. Never once did we feel unsafe. The home has everything you will need. We saw so many amazing animals and sunsets from the back patios. The pool is wonderful. The area on the little mountain where the house is located is great for hikes. We met many of the neighbors in the area. All very polite and friendly. The small waterfall located a short hike away is beautiful and quiet. We spent a few days exploring the area around the property. We spotted toucans, howler monkeys, humming birds and thier babies, parrots, coati, and a sloth all in the backyard of the home. I hated leaving. We enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend it. Beautiful property! 💖

I am so glad you enjoyed your stay at Casa Toucan. We are so sorry about any inconvenience caused by the construction nearby. Thankfully this is the last house that will be built on our little road. Please return so we can give you a discount on your next visit.

Experiencing Costa Rica wilderness in comfort; remotely located in the hills in the forest yet with all the comfort and amenities you will expect from an urban house. We enjoyed every day we stayed at Casa Toucan, we slept at night to the sound of the forest we woke up every morning to the sounds of the howling monkeys took our breakfast surrounded by magical birds and butterflies and rejuvenated ourselves in the beauty of Costa Rica Pacific coast. Costa Rica was way more than we expected, Ticos are welcoming, educated and aware of what make their country so special, we will be back.

We very much enjoyed our stay in this home. The home was everything we were told it would be. This is always nice because you're unaware of what may be at the home before you get there. This was as advertised. The home has full amenities with washer and dryer which is a real plus. The views from the deck into the jungle areas are wonderful. Although the pool looked great, we never used it. We had a small problem at the house during our stay and called Rolando who came right over and fixed our problem. The home is located in a great area. It is between the south coast and the Gulf of Dulce and the Quepos and Jaco areas. These are can't miss places.

We had an amazing time at Casa Toucan. The house was perfect for our family and we really enjoyed being able to relax in the pool and cook dinner on the grill after spending the day exploring all of the fun things to do in the area. Our only regret is that we weren't able to stay longer. Also, thank you for your recommendation to use Service Rental Car. They were great!

Your experience (public) This property is lovely, well maintained and has all the amenities that you would need. The views are fantastic and we woke early every morning to the sounds and in some cases the sights of monkeys. The home is indeed in the rainforest--so there are lizards, spiders and bats close to the home, so as long as you don't mind some indoor guests --this is the place for you. We personally loved adventure of the 4X4 drive up and down the mountain every day. The first few times were a bit unsettling , but we got used to it and it became a ton of fun for us and the kids. The pool was well maintained and clean. It is larger than it appears in the picture. It was also great that the home provides linens, beach towels and bath towels-- and has a washer/dryer to keep these things fresh. It was great that they had several beach chairs and two boogie boards, that were great for the kids. The kitchen was well stocked with great cooking utensils, pots and pans, glassware and dishes. It has a grill-- so we cooked in a few days after buying the groceries down the mountain at the BM. We took advantage of some close by adventures. We recommend spending time at the waterfall at the bottom of the mountain, visiting Playa Ventanas, and eating at the Jolly Roger, Bamboo Room and the The Baker Bean. We used the recommendations that are provided in the house binder to go zip lining (so fun, but not for the faint of heart), and snorkeling. We also visited and LOVED the Alturas Wildlife Sanctuary in Dominical. We cannot say enough about the beauty of the home and the surroundings. Uvita and Casa Toucan are an excellent choice if you are looking for an affordable and family friendly stay in Costa Rica. Here we had both relaxation and adventure. LOVED IT!!!!!!!!! PURA VIDA!!!!!!!

My husband and I stayed in Casa Toucan for four months. We loved the privacy and jungle feel with a gorgeous ocean view. Nature lovers paradise - monkeys swinging from nearby trees, birds and butterflies everywhere. It was important for us to have a house well appointed - and Casa Toucan is! We grilled or cooked dinner almost every night and the kitchen is well stocked for cooking and eating. Everything is well stocked - sheets, towels, beach towels, beach chairs, boogie boards - just bring your bathing suit and you are set! The elevation of Casa Toucan keeps the house nice and cool even when it is hot in Uvita. We had 6 different sets of guests come and visit during our stay - and they all loved the house as well. The bedrooms/bathrooms are separated by a huge family room giving everyone plenty of space and privacy. You will need a 4x4 to get up here - but the roads are well maintained and views coming up and down are spectacular (you can check the tide by looking at the whales tail on your way down the hill). The caretaker Rolando was very helpful and his English is good, plus he is super nice and responsive. We are sorry to be leaving Casa Toucan, our stay was wonderful.

From the start, Lynn and her Management team, Tom and Christine, made booking our trip as easy and pleasurable as possible. We had never been to Costa Rica and they held our hand through the whole process. The house itself is unbelievable and is far beyond what can be captured in photos. The open floor plan and open exposed screened windows, give you the feeling of being perched in a tree house atop the jungle. The bugs are not bad at all which was one of our concerns before arriving. People comment on the drive up the mountain to the house, and although is quite intense the first time, became one of our favorite parts (4x4 is not an option, it is a necessity). The private waterfall on the property was a tad tricky to find the first time (maybe we are just daft) so we didn't really enjoy it until the end of the trip. Once we found it, we wished we had gone every single day! Its a little oasis. We explored a lot of Costa Rica during our stay and honestly couldn't find a better town than Uvita. Its far enough from the really commercialized touristy areas but its still developed enough to be comfortable for foreigners. You get the real spirit of Costa Rica. Things you MUST do: go the the waterfall that is on the road from Uvita up to the house because there is a natural waterslide! Take the ATV tour for the day that leaves right from the town of Uvita. MUST do the horse ride up to the Nauyaca Waterfall. Have a meal or two at The Jolly Roger because they have some of the best wings and burgers we had experienced anywhere in the world (Tom and Christine will agree!). Plus the view is incredible. If you surf, Dominical is the best but if you just want a beach day without huge waves crashing on you, try Hermosa or Dominicalito beach. Its less busy and i found them more enjoyable (i dont surf though). Dominical was amazing for bars but dont be afraid to try the little bar/club at the bottom of the mountain in Uvita. Josen will take good care of you. All in all, Casa Toucan gave us all a better perspective on life after watching just one sunset from the pool with an Imperial in hand. I'm sure it will for you too! Slow down and live Pura Vida :-) Travis

We are a family of 4- two adults and 2 children age 6 and 8. We all loved staying at Casa Toucan. Very spacious rooms, open plan, view on the ocean over lush jungle. Space, air, bird calls, guttural monkey sounds- indescribable! Truly a place to relax and enjoy every minute. Pool is great, water is warm and clean, no chlorine smell. House is very clean as well. It is also very spacious and very comfortably furnished in a great taste. We found everything we need for a comfortable stay. The owners provided beach towels and toys, huge collection of DVDs (but only few for kids), paper towels, even laundry detergent was provided! Even thought the house is in the middle of a jungle we have not had wild life crawling around the house. We saw a tiny lizard inside a few times, I think it was anole. Outside we saw toucans and lizards. Heard but seldom saw monkeys. Waterfall a little ways from the house is beautiful and the water is deep enough for swimming. Last few steps to the fall are quite steep but manageable. Staying at Casa Toucan was great. We definitely got the value for our money.

Casa Toucan is a unique property in all senses: It offers amazing views of the jungle and ocean, remote location (yet within a short distance of Uvita), and is situated within a short distance of many of the adventures that my family was interested in. We arrived very late after some flight delays into San Jose, so getting up to the property on the steep mountain road was a bit tricky, but not as bad as I was expecting due to very good directions left by Lynn, the owner. As we arrived very late, the property managers offered to bring some breakfast by the next morning and help get us oriented to the property. We really appreciated that, as we were all exhausted from the long trip. The house itself has large, open rooms and does not have windows - just screens, so you are truly immersed in the jungle setting. This is great most of the time, but sometimes the jungle is surprisingly "loud", so just be aware of that. We did become accustomed to the sounds by the 2nd day, and looked forward to the morning and afternoon visits by the friendly Toucans and various birds. The master bedroom has a completely open bathroom area, which we had mixed opinions on - it would be one of the few things we might change if we were able. We could hear the howler monkeys somewhere nearby, but never actually spotted them. The pool was great for an afternoon dip after the day's adventures, of which we had planned for each day. Thanks to Lynn for a very memorable stay at Casa Toucan!

Uvita has become our consistent travel destination and the Clark's are a big reason why! The house is set upon a beautiful outlook about 3.5 km up the mountain from the main intersection in Uvita. The fauna and flora can't be beat, every morning we had a few families of monkeys jumping through the property. I highly recommend the home and the surrounding area. A few activities we consider a must, Hacienda Baru, Kayaking in Sierpe, Mangroves, and hiking up and down the river a short walk away from the property. Please contact Lynn to make your reservations!! One note, we always go to Uvita/Ojochal in January, we have not had a rainy day yet! Be sure to have a 4x4. Pura Vida!
